Hi FishBowl. Can somebody answer my question. How much does new grad PT make in NYC? I have no ideas, and felt like they're low balling me. Also do you really recommend doing Mentoring or everything will just learn along the way?
Thanks!

In NYC, for a new grad, you should be looking for between the 80s or 90s. Are you working at a hospital, home health or something else?

I made 83k as a new grad OT in SC …. NYC HAS to be more ???

like

That’s what I said above! I made 80k plus 10k bonus after a year as a new grad OT in NYC in 2017. No way with all the inflation that doctors of pt make 70k?? What am I missing here? How much are OTs making in nyc now? I moved to California I make 63/hr now here as a director of rehab

PT entry level roles in NYC make between 50-60k usually. Mentoring could be good to learn how to do things within a specific role, but you can also learn along the way. I would see what is available and go from there. Also would go with the highest paying role you can find. NYC is expensive.

I made 80k in 2017 as a new OT grad in homecare in NYC. I would hope that it’s increased!! And a 10k bonus after a year

I would ask for no less than 60k. That is a fair salary for that role in that location. NYC is very expensive so I would probably ask for a little higher than that to start negotiations.

How much do they offer you? How many years of experience do you have?

Consider the fact that different settings offer different pay. For example school setting will be very low compared to SNF or home health. For NYC as a new grad, 80s is fair. Don’t be afraid to negotiate!
As for mentorship, it depends. If you had really good clinical experiences as a student then maybe it’s not necessary.

What were your offers and in which setting?

I got an offer 78k for outpatient clinic.

Salary? Or hourly? Do you get guaranteed hours or pay per visit?

Thanks guys for answering!

I would definitely try to negotiate either for higher pay or other benefits like CEUs, PTO, maybe travel stipend, etc.
