Hey bud,
I have been in exact same situation, if not worse. I was working in Production Support for 3 years straight and the technology we were using, there is not many jobs in open market. So, I learnt XYZ technology as I was interested in learning it. It took me nearly 5 months to learn nearly half of it, switched to a different project inside of the company, learnt all aspects of the project, did hands-on and nearly 1 year later now, I have got offers from multiple orgs with nearly 120% salary hike.
So, there is nothing to be scared of buddy, you can do it. Moreover, DevOps engineers are crucial to any kind of development project. Just keep on upskilling.
Just continue what you have been doing for next 6 months. Parallelly learn whatever you wanna learn and if possible get certified. After 6 months if the market is in the same condition then start looking for new opportunities in different domain.
It's never too late ....it's just that you have created a comfort zone there the moment you will jump to switch sooner or later you will get something and as far as recession is concerned ..you never know what will happen tomorrow that's not in our control so you focus on getting some confidence i know one guy who spent 5 years in his first company and then today he is about to do his fourth switch in 4 years for total 9+ years of experience also while switching please expect lots of rejections may be more than 20+ or infact 30+ but that doesn't mean you are not capable when you and your next opportunity is supposed to click then it will click not before that have patience there ! Also just one advice when you start giving interviews only thing that you have to keep in mind is ..that whatever questions you couldn't answer in one interview you are reading in and out about it before next interview.
