Hi Fishes! I’m about to start studying for FAR, using Becker. Any advice would be much appreciated, along with prayers haha. 😅

(I heard) Ninja is now included with Becker.

Don’t memorize formulas. Try to read the text and learn the theory behind the formulas. FAR is notorious for asking you a question where you need to solve multiple equations to get the answer because you’re missing pieces of the formula. If you know the reasoning behind the math you can reason your way through any problem

Also hammering MC won’t help. You memorize the answers. I clicked through each one and read the explanation behind the right answer

Everyone is different. For me I did the lectures and MC once. Then moved on to final review. With extra time I went back and read the text and watched examples on things I struggled with

Good luck! It’s a tough process but it’s worth it

Just keep going. 60 minutes a day of uninterrupted studying.

Don’t forget to study government and truly understand the material. I think it was the deciding factor for me passing.

Make sure you know government and NFP very very well

I’ll start by saying that you should think about what studying methods were most successful for you in school and see how you can apply those to CPA studying. You’ll see a lot of reccomendations to get a lot of reps in on the MC which I’ll agree with too. Sims are important to understand the format of them but once you have taken one exam and gotten used to the testing center, test format, software everything etc., the sims become less and less important in my opinion for studying. My thought was, why should I spend 1-1.5 hours covering 5-10 topics that may never show up on the exam when I can do 150-200 MC questions in that same time frame, covering way more topics. Another couple pieces of advice: 1. Make sure you can confidently answer every MC question you have but ALSO be able to explain to yourself why the other options are incorrect. Exam writers are very good at tweaking a few words/numbers that make the answer change from one thing to another 2. For questions that are a longer read, make sure to read the question at the end first before getting too deep into all the details/background. A lot of the time, they will ask “How much should this be under X scenario?” You’ll know, that amount is always $0 under that scenario so no point in reading all the fluff/useless info.

The final review book is worth the money once you’re through the main FAR material. It was a great summary, and I credit that with my passing score.

In July I missed my promo to SM. A woman has been preferred even if she was underqualified (my MD's words), as at Accenture we have quotas for women. I'm interviewing with Deloitte, they told me I'll help building the practice. In the meantime I was assured by my MD that in December I'll get the promo. I don't really care changing company, even if I've built a network, I don't think I need to wait if I can. Your thoughts?

I worked hard at a small agency and was promoted from AE to AS after only 8 months in the industry. I had to leave and found a contract position as an AS at a large agency. I am finishing my contract and my boss offered me a permanent position, but wants me on as an AE. I am open to the AE position, but they are unwilling to compromise on the AE salary which is a substantial cut from my salary at my former agency and 45% of my contract pay. What do I do? Do I leave if I feel I deserve more?

I got a 2nd job offer after formally accepting another (both start in 2.5 weeks). Job Offer 2 salary is a few grand more than Offer 1(already acceted) AND pays 100% of health/dental/vision premiums, which will save me another few thousand a year. Both jobs are in a city notorious for it's high cost-of-living (my partners job is moving us from the midwest to SF this summer), so several thousand dollars difference *WILL* be noticeable. Is it too late to use Offer 2 to negotiate Offer 1?
