I’m confused, homes sold a year earlier than you cost $30k less or homes sold after you cost $30k less? If homes sold earlier were cheaper, yeah, duh that’s how it works. If the builder has reduced their price after you bought, then yes, with asking for upgrades. Also, it’s $30k so not the end of the world.
Home sold year earlier cost $30k less now.

If you already closed it’s just too bad. The market moved. How would you feel if prices increased and the builder came and asked you to pay more after you closed. If you have not closed yet, I would ask for something.
I Haven’t closed it yet. Any suggestions how to approach builder?
Remind them that there are fewer buyers these days, and wouldn't they rather sell for less than let it languish?

Are there any upgrades you would like that it’s not too late to add? They are way more likely to give upgrades vs a price reduction.

Are you using a realtor? If so ask them. Otherwise, call the sales office. Say that you noticed that they were giving upgrades on new sales and you would like to get upgraded counters (or whatever). See how they respond. The issue could be that they have already ordered everything and can’t make the changes you want and they won’t lower the sales price because that impacts appraisal values and causes them all kinds of problems.
