Assuming you donāt have status, I would get there (the terminal) at least 90 minutes before the flight leaves if youāre checking a bag. More if you are parking far from the airport (not at the big blue deck). Just to be safeā¦itās not worth an extra 15 minutes of sleep for all the stress. Then, find a small nook or corner and just hunker down there away from people (or the lounge, tho those are busy)
Wear a good mask N95 or KN95. Donāt take it off a ton to eat / drink. Donāt eat / drink on the plane if you can avoid it (or wait until everyone else has finished and put their masks back on)
You'll be fine, just make sure to clap when you land to show appreciation for the flight crew.
Double mask and try to drink or eat
Depends, do you have TSA PreCheck? Do you have checked baggage? I would say 2 hours is not necessary, especially without checked bags.
My TSA pre-check expired and yes I will be checking a bag (unfortunately), and no status with United. Basically the opposite of my previous weekly business travel lol so not sure what to expect š

Oh with Christmas I never risk it. Iāve flown during covid and itās been really quick but itās so unpredictable right now. 90 mins to play it safe
Man, yāall travel so different. If Iām carrying on Iām showing up basically when the airport is boarding. I have pre-check and the line is never long.
My pre-check expired and I need to check a bag š¢

Safe travels OP and two hours should be plenty of time.
Thank you K1! ā¤ļø
You should already be at the airport
2hrs. Eat a huge meal before u get to the airport to avoid unmasking on the plane. Bring a straw so that you can drink without fully unmasking. The airport lines and boarding made me more nervous than the actual plane.
Hi all, thanks so much for your help. I am waiting at my gate now; somehow it only took me 30 mins to check a bag, go through regular security, and walk all the way down to my terminal which is the farthest one (at DTW North terminal). How is everyoneās experience at Chicago OāHare (ORD)?
Safe travels to anyone else traveling and happy holidays!
I flew on Christmas at DTW last year and it wasnāt bad at all! Iām from Detroit originally so I frequent the airport (will be there thursday haha), honestly havenāt waited for more than 15 min max in a while. If you are still unsure, they have live approximate wait times on the airport website, you could check it through the day to get an idea

To be safe be there 1.5-2 hours early; I flew 2 weeks before thanksgiving this year for example and I had arrived 2 hours early and STILL I was this close to missing my flight bc of the lines (no pre check, had to check in a bag).
Pro
This was at LaGuardia, on a Monday morning (I arrived at 4am for a 6am flight lol lines were HELLISHLY long)
Itās the same as before. Shouldnāt be any stress, get there at least an hour before the flight takes off and youāll be ok
Flew out of JFK this afternoon. Arrived about 40-30 mins prior to my flight. Lines were long but I have both pre check and clear. Maybe took 3 min to get though security.
Iād definitely leave and arrive earlier than youād think. Around the holidays, DTW gets crazy even getting to the terminals and if you donāt have status and need to check a bag and donāt have precheck anymore, given the staffing shortages, Iād expect long lines.
Also any tips in general on flying right now would be appreciated⦠feeling pretty anxious / nervous given the recent spike in cases. I did get my booster last week but it wonāt be āfullyā effective for another week and a half or so
An air purifier shipped to destination (they are like $70 on Amazon) would be more helpful than cloroxing the world.
