Hi folks,
I’m trying to figure out what kind of makeup looks good on my face. I’m getting married in four months from now, and I’m really worried about ending up in a makeup disaster on my day. I got makeup done twice in my life and it looked horrible on me. I’m not sure what makes me look so artificial and weird with makeup on. I’d really appreciate your advices on where to begin with. I’ve a normal, clear skin and I’m a newbie in the makeup world (have been using just an eyeliner so far). :)
I am the same and only wear sunscreen, no foundation, on a regular basis. I told the MAU for my wedding I wanted a very natural look, and when I looked in the mirror I was so shocked at how different I looked. I didn’t look bad, per se, but I felt like I had an OBNOXIOUS amount of makeup on and it wasn’t “me”. She did explain to me first however that it would look heavy to me, since I’m not a daily user, but that it would photograph well. Aaaaand she was right. It looked sooo good in photos, and totally light and natural as I had requested. Just something to consider!
Thanks for sharing! I hope that’s how it turns out for me as well. 😊

there’s no rule that says you have to cake on a whole face of makeup to get married. if you have clear skin then take advantage of it! if you are worried about looking good in photos i would recommend taking some ahead of time in a similar lighting situation to the planned wedding (is it inside or outside, what time of day, etc). then you can see if you want to go heavier on the eye makeup or if you need an under eye concealer. if you look pale maybe a blush.

great! natural light is the most flattering anyway ;) one thing i like to wear even when i’m basically bare faced is a bit of highlighter on the cheek bones. who doesn’t want to sparkle?!
Are you having a professional photographer? A professional makeup artist? What style dress/ wedding (ballgown? Or relaxed outdoor?)
Thank you so much! This is very helpful! 💛
I only used eyeliner and mascara before my wedding. I got a trial done that looked terrible - it didnt look like me at all. I asked them to keep it more natural & do a brown eyeliner instead of black and it made a world of a difference and i looked like myself - but a gorgeous gorgeous me! - on my day. They did the airbrush makeup which kept it on all day & night & gave me the right highlights on my cheeks etc... made a huge difference for photos. They did fake long eyelashes to bring out my eyes without looking crazy. And the brown eyeliner & a more “pop” color for my lips that is similar to my natural lip color but with extra color/pop whatever. I totally understand the hesitation... i am so so thankful for the makeup i did for my wedding. Plus it gave me confidence to lesrn a tiny bit about what looks good on me . You got this, OP!!
Oh, that’d be great! Thanks a ton! ☺️

Yeah Hass to be someone in the party that can help touch you up in between your nuptials and dinner and dancing. I always say if you ask him a question that means you really want it done I will just make sure somebody’s there to touch me up and give me a once over I wouldn’t let or fear that my make up would run because there’s solutions for that like urban decay primer. This is your big day and you want to look back on those photos

yeah if your mua is not using eye primer and setting spray... idk if they know what they’re doing.
Is there a particular style you are going for, or a particular celebrity whose makeup you like? What parts do you want to highlight or hide?
I don’t have any particular style in my mind. Just want to look fresh and good in the pictures. As my skin is clear, do not want to go for heavy makeup. We’re going to have an outdoor wedding in the day and reception late evening/night. :)
My advice is to practice wearing lashes ahead of time if you plan on wearing them on the big day - they can be uncomfortable if you’re not used to them. If you don’t wear foundation often you could wear a bb cream, it will give a sheen over coverage for more of a ‘your skin but better’ type glow. Figure out your undertones and if you lean cool / warm or neutral to decide what colours to go for (for example I’m a cool toned dark winter colouring therefore peach looks hideous on me, yet peach is a common natural wedding makeup colour). A good way to figure it out is to check what colour your veins are; as a rule of thumb green veins = warm complexion and blue veins = cool complexion. If you look better in gold jewellery you’re likely warm, silver jewellery likely cool. The reason this matters is because warm/cool bronzers will suit you better, orange/blue based reds will suit you better etc.
This is some really helpful information! Thanks a ton for sharing. BB cream sounds like a good alternative. I’ll try it soon. And I had no about cool/warm undertones. Let me figure it out for myself.

I’m a big fan of Kjaer Weis! If you don’t want a lot of makeup, focus on a good moisturizer/serum/oil and then do a little foundation. Powder with a brush, or a few drops of liquid with clean fingertips. A little blush on cheeks, a dab on the forehead, dab on the nose bridge, and dab on the center chin. For eyes, if you want a light look go with a dreamy lighter beige tone depending on your skin for lids and a dot by the inner eyes. For mascara, do one for length, not volume. Last trick is to put a face or eye oil on lips as a moisturizer before a lipstick. Boom, goddess, but you still look like you!
I tried this and it looked amazing! Thank you!!
You may need to wait until the vaccine comes out and it’s safe to be in close contact with others. Then go to your local Sephora a few different times and have different make up artists try out styles on you until you find something that works. Or upload a picture of yourself on the website and get color and product suggestions from strangers for the time being
Oh, that’s a great idea. Thanks!!
