Facebook (Program Manager, Emerging Products), TC $160k L4, Have to move to Austin / Bay Area end of this year 2. JP Morgan (Product Strategy, Payments) TC $160k, Sr. Associate, they said they will put me up for VP next year, NYC Deloitte Facebook JPMorgan Chase

I would go with FB! As a current manager at D, the only benefit is the title ( for exit opps) and pay. However, I would only take it if you choice Austin the 160 will go longer in the south plus no state taxes. Lastly, after this experience you can elevate to a higher role within the tech industry vs being an over worked and underpaid SM at Deloitte

Everyone yelling Facebook is just obsessing over the idea of joining a FAANG company and still thinks of Facebook as the game changing unicorn it once was. How many people on here ACTUALLY use Facebook regularly? Probably very few. It's all boomers and they are not going to be around much longer. I think Facebook has peaked and is not contributing positively to society. But the important consideration is what kind of work you're really passionate about rather than focusing on brands or money. Do you want to work in tech/social media and really want to be in a PM role? Then Facebook probably makes sense. Do you have more of an interest in financial services products and customer experiences? I think the JPM Payments role could actually be really cool and you would likely help them design and build the future of their payments products and experiences, but that may only interest a small portion of people. I'm working with a consumer bank in a number of digital domains and the work is really interesting and also relevant/impactful to many people.

Agreed. Pretty low effort to write off a company based on your own experience with a single product

They said they will put you up for VP, means absolutely nothing.

I would personally take Facebook and try to move to Austin

Echoing all the folks reasons above + FB is good entrant into tech so opens up doors to go to other FAANG down the road, 2 the RSU (if any) at FB would have IMO higher potential than JPM

like

I think Facebook. Both are great roles but Facebook’s business is Products and Tech. JPMorgan at its core is an Investment Bank. And you want to be where the core business of the firm is.

Got it - I might be wrong then about the JPM job. My basic principle is that as long as it’s core to business, it’s good.

I exited from Mgr at D to PM at FB last year. I can't comment on JPM or which city to pick, but am really loving the company (it's very different from the external perception) and it's such a positively different experience. I'd also echo the remarks above that you can use this as your way into tech, depending on what your long-term goals are.

They contacted me, the interview process was pretty grueling but I prevailed. 6 yoe in consulting

Facebook No point in working for JPM if it’s not in finance. Also - always glad to see someone leave Deloitte.

Love the Facebook offer as it would likely help for future growth prospects, even though its 20k less. I’m also looking to make a similar move. Would it be alright if I DM’d you to learn more about your approach for getting these types of offers?

likehelpful

Yeah definitely let’s connect. Just give me a day or so to close this thing out. Btw, both offers are the same TC.

Congrats OP!!

Facebook, hands down. More exciting space, better work culture (in general), excellent exits for a program manager to other tech (or non-tech) firms. I’d imagine JP will always be there later, opportunities like this at Facebook feel rarer.

I was offered the VP title at a bank if I opened up a checking account with them. Hard pass.

Facebook is the absolute devil. Do not do it.

What do you think D is?

JPMorgan almost certainly will make you wait two years for vp regardless of what they promise you.

like

Not the case for me, you just need to unofficially have a year at the firm. I got all exceeds on my first year review in all categories and max incentive comp. I have a VP platform and will hit my full year in a few months. Current plan with my leads is to put me up this cycle but you need MD sponsorship outside your org in my group.

Product role at tech company far superior to “strategy” at a bank.

like

Facebook. VP at a bank is basically still a clown - also they're probably lying about the promo

like

Interned with the Payments Strat team at JPM few years ago - has really taken off and sharp team. Fin tech space is taking off in general and still have a ton of recruiters reach out for the roles because the skill is in demand. That being said, think FB is the better opportunity. Higher pay in Austin, better company, and probably office, imo

like

Associate at JPM Payments is like 2-3 years out of school tops too

like

- Up for Manager at Deloitte this year but willing to let that go - FB role is operations focused, and JPM is pure strategy - Both roles potentially can lead to Product Management

like

I’d take M at Deloitte and exit later for better opps than just 160k (the point of giving your life up in consulting is to increase your chances somewhere else, for higher pay). With bonus as M, you’ll be close to 200k. Also, 160k is a low salary for Bay Area. Think long term and make sure you select the one that helps further your career and has an established growth path. Also, if your promotion is in works, why not wait until June to get your bonus and title?

If living in NYC is more important to you, then stay in NYC.

Facebook for sure. I have been working in financial industry area since I joined the firm and recently switch out of banking industry. The world is different....... Tech company has much better working environment even for Deloitte people

From talking to students at multiple M7 schools, it seems like all of the BB/MBB/FAANG companies recruit at most if not all of the schools . So if you're planning on recruiting for one of these, is there really a major difference in career opportunities between each school? Asking because it seems like some schools are specifically known for finance vs consulting vs tech, but if the companies are all recruiting at all these schools, the differences don't seem as pronounced to me.
