Hi friends! I’m struggling to make it to the gym because I don’t sleep enough. What are tactical ways that you’ve enforced sleep discipline in your life?

This is my trick, I just sign up for an early morning class one day! I get up and go there and then that day I feel really crappy cuz I won’t have enough sleep but then I will be so exhausted I’ll go to bed early that day and then my sleep schedule is back to normal. It works for me but idk if that works for everyone

This is the way!!

Why are you not sleeping enough? 🤔

Pick the time you want to fall asleep. 2 - 3 hours before that time, put all your electronic devices away (phone, TV, tablet, etc). Start a bedtime ritual, like some light stretching, cup of caffeine-free tea, or meditation. Then get into bed and read a book. Book cannot be related to work and I’d advise against thrillers/murder mystery. You want to read something to unwind you.

On the flip side, think about what gets you out of the bed in the morning. Is it a cute gym outfit or a fun class (that you’ll pay for if you miss 😜). I think focusing on getting more sleep of better quality plus creating incentives or motivation to get up and out of bed is so so helpful.

I take half a unisom on occasion to go to sleep earlier

My trick is to force yourself to train at least once or twice on low sleep and then it should reset

like

Pick a time that’s earlier than you’d normally go to bed and cut yourself off from your phone or any thinking activities at that time. Turn off the lights, lie down in bed and mentally review the activities of your day from wake up to the present moment (woke up, brushed teeth, made coffee, went to work, worked, ate lunch, etc) without getting caught up in any particular moment. For a few rounds take a deep breath in for 4, hold it for 4, slowly let it out for 8.

As far as enforcement goes, you have to really FEEL that your desire to work out in the morning is greater than your desire to stay up late.

Get up anyway and hit the squat rack

Set a bedtime alarm and when it goes off you go to bed. Going to bed at the same time every day will help a lot

You need to know what time your body sleep clock . Do you have anxiety or your choice ? mine around 11pm if I stayed up after midnight then I be like zombie 😵‍💫 try to force my self to sleep but my brain won’t stop thinking so started listening to meditation music 🧘‍♀️ or any pod cast for distraction to stop thinking.

Disabled all screens devices at least two hours before bed, no phones no tv 📺… I started using Headspace to help me wind down… and I make it a point to be in bed by 9:00pm… with a book in hand… melatonin gummies also help…

smart

For me it fell into place when I started working out again. My body craved restorative sleep in a different way after getting back into it.

I’m traveling again for work and while it took me a while to get back into it, I’m almost as efficient as I was pre-Covid. My issue is that when I get home, I am exhausted. It feels like it takes me a day to recover from any travel that is more than an overnight trip. I know travel disrupts sleep and I eat heavier food when I’m on the road, so I’m watching that, but any other tips to not come home feeling like a shell? Or how to bounce back faster?
