Hi guys! I’m looking to make friends in Boston. I’m in my late 20s and just moved in the fall, and I’ve realized I haven’t made new friends all winter! Any suggestions on potential groups? I’m an avid painter, sailor, and reader of really bad romcoms (if there’s a related book club), and I’m a very very slow runner (like back of the pack 10-12 min mile, it’s like everyone in Boston is a marathon runner??). Thanks in advance!!

I joined bumble bff and actually met a few close friends that way lol. It’s hard making friends as an adult!

like

Oh no! Yeah I tried bumble bff a while back when I was dating. I wish it was separate from the dating app, especially now that I’m off the market!

Join community boating and meet people there

like

That’s the plan!! Will I see you there?

Meetup or Volo. Run clubs here are rabid. Not everyone is a marathon runner, maybe half marathon. Hard to fit in as an "average" runner.

We have a big dragon boat community - a little different than sailing but it's how I made friends here after moving. Check out meetup for groups. Plus you're out on the water.

like

Kudos, I’ve tried a few times, it is not easy! I need to develop more muscles for that haha. Great fun though

I’m trying to get back into running, sailing and painting after a long hiatus so sounds like we have some things in common! Feel free to DM me :)

There’s a 5k fun run in Jamaica park every Saturday at 9am :) Feel free to DM me if you’d like to meet there & have coffee after or something!

Second bumble bff! I’ve met a lot of great people on there.

Where did you move from? Community boating is awesome. When I moved here,my boys learned sailing there and it cost $1. 🤣 So many art communities as well. You will love it here.

like

Definitely joining community boating - they have some great racing! Which art communities do you recommend?

1. Join a hashing club - they seriously run, but not real fast and it is a roving party - was very Boston a decade ago - I can't see how it is any less.
2. Join community boating. I did it 20 years ago, but am now out of the city so I am in a different club.
3. Join community rowing. Take up rowing. Same water, new experience.

like

I’ll leave rowing for my buff SO! Did it in high school, and going to stick with sailing haha. But yes, definitely joining community boating!

I really enjoyed volo. I did it with a group of friends but we had some random people added as individuals to our team, by the end you wouldnt know who was an individual vs started the team with us and it was fun!

I'm in my early 30s.. A month ago, I moved from Toronto to Maine for work.. For the first 2 weeks, i felt so lonely.. would love to hangout in Boston over weekends.. eventhough its 2-3 hours drive for me..

Have you checked out Portland, Maine? They have some really quirky social spots. I was quite charmed when we visited and happy to meet you halfway :)

When I moved here in ‘18 I started trying a few different breweries/distilleries if you’re into that. People will chat at the bar and talk about cool spots nearby. I actually found out about Downeast cider in Eastie that way and now I’m behind the bar there.

Looking for advice on personal space in a relationship. Been in thus relationship for 6 months. I date here and there but have not been in a serious relationship in a long time. Been working late M-F since COVID started. I usually call my gf after work or before I go to sleep and we talk for an hr or so each night. My bf took a guys trip to Caribbean to celebrate a good friend of 20+ year’s milestone bday. The friend’s bday is the day before mine. Normally bf and I trip for my bday over the holiday weekend. Bf will be back for my actual bday, and we’re taking a domestic trip next weekend. That said, I still feel a little miffed that we’re not spending this weekend together like normal. Are my feelings unreasonable?

What usually warrants a married couple to start living separately and coparent their child? No job or financial constraints just that the wife moved from the house with their child to an apartment nearby.

This weekend, starting right now, try to identify the very best thing that happens. Keep a running top five. When something better happens, put it on the list.

I started yesterday at 4:00.

5. I woke up Saturday morning.
4. The roads are clear enough to travel to our first HS archery tournament of the season.
3.My dad shared some amazing summer sausage when I visited.
2. We had a child free date night
1. My 6th grade son instigated a snowball fight yesterday afternoon, we made a memory.

I suppose I’m considered an ABCD but I was born in India so I am hoping you fish will be able to understand: lately, I’m really struggling to make conversation with my own dad. It originally started with him telling me I should get married which led to me keeping a distance from him. Throughout my whole life my dad has basically been the one to be the rational voice - telling me to study, to work hard, to go to grad school, and encouraged all those things. Conversations always centered around what I had to do and they were less friend-like. It also doesn’t help that Indian dads don’t take vacation, don’t like to do “fun” things. Are any other fish struggling with this?

Worried about my dad. He spends hours every day watching/reading news, but only sites that support his point of view. When he’s not consuming news, he’s railing loudly against politicians he doesn’t like or people who are on “the other side”, completely distorting basic facts. It almost seems like he’s slowly losing his grip of reality. This is all he does in his free time, he has no interest or motivation to pursue any hobbies or other activities.
