Second this. So good!

Any of Ruth Ware’s books. She favors the non-reliable narrator. I think she has 4 or 5 of them out now. They all have a twist, maybe not quite as good as Gillian Flynn, but she’s getting better with each book. I really enjoyed The Woman in Cabin 10 (felt a little like a modern Agatha Christie) and The Turn of the Key

like

The Woman in Cabin 10 was great!

Girl on the Train

You may have already looked but Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl author) has written several other good books.

Before I Go to Sleep by SJ Watson. It’s a serious page turner. I also loved Dark Matter and Recursion, both by Blake Crouch, but they have a sci-fi angle.

Second the Blake Crouch rec! I enjoyed both those.

The other Mrs. Parrish, the woman in the window and the wife between us.

The other Mrs. Parrish is the best

A Good Marriage was great - and the protagonist is actually a lawyer. Really great read!

Just curious, what percentage of your billable rate do you take home? Calculation would be ((Salary and Bonus/Yearly Billable Hours)/Billable Rate). For me it's about 18% as a Senior 1 in M&A Tax (note this doesn't include other benefits).

Considering stacking on the Venture X since it pays for itself. Only thing causing me to hold out is the minimum spend. 100k points for 10k is a lot of money for a pretty low earning rate. Do you think they'll give a bigger offer or lower the minimum spend?

I have Amex points on corp card and need to buy a long haul flight. It looks like it’s best to use them by booking travel through Amex but I’m confused about the bit that says I’ll get a statement credit when I pay with points. I’m the one whose ex won’t pay for college - and I have an update. My ex texted me today that he and his wife are buying our son a car (!!) for Christmas. On the one hand, it’s one less expense for me. On the other hand, my ex won’t pay for college and he owes me at least $10K for previous medical expenses, but he can find money for a car - which is a “fun” expense that will get him brownie points with our son. Whatever - my son benefits, but talk about a “Disneyland Dad.” Ugh.

How do I understand which status each stream is currently at? What’s the scope of deliverables and what to focus on? Decided to quit (hate my job/team and struggling with mental health) but agreed to stay on through the anniversary of my clawback since they are desperate. Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m not terribly thrilled with the new Halo Top ad. I’m all for body acceptance but part of the reason COVID hit the U.S. so hard is because of co-morbidities like obesity. There has to be a line btw “real” bodies and not celebrating a state that causes so many medical issues - Ie overweight without the medical definition of very obese. Do you think brands have gone too far in the other direction?

First time expecting mom here. I have a very noob / stupid question. So I read that you're not supposed to let the baby sleep alone in his/her room when newborn. So then what is the point of the nursery?! Wouldn't it make more sense to have the crib/bassinet in the parents' bedroom, or have a bed for an adult in the nursery as well? Confused here.

Has anyone changed from audit to tax? I'm a senior and want to know if it's remotely possible..I had a less than a year experience in tax before starting in audit at a big 4.
