Does anyone stress about student loans? I have $176k in loans and as January gets closer, the panic attacks have gotten worser. I am in-house at a Real Estate company (making $90k), which is terrible bc they are going under due to the market. Hey tech folks. I'm mentoring a software engineer graduate and wanted your opinion. I had him write out his 5 year goals to me and it's about finding his niche and specializing in 5 years. Would you say that's too early to think about specializing? My thoughts are to say it's OK if you find your passion and want to specialize, but it's also OK to generalize and pick up more skills and experience in different aspects of tech.

I’m an IP associate (focused mainly on trademarks) in an AMLaw 200 firm (slightly below NY market pay) and I’m curious to know what IP groups (mainly trademark related practices) at V50 firms are like. My practice is relatively chill. No major fires to put out - steady and predictable 8-9 billable hours a day. I can generally not work on weekends. Am I at a unicorn shop or is this normal for Trademark practices?

Another hours post — I’ve been so slow this year. I hate it. I’ve asked for work and pick up projects here and there but the group generally isn’t busy. I’m annualizing at around 1700. Last year I billed 2100. I’m concerned how this is going to impact my reviews. And in general just concerned about wasting a year not really learning much or being valuable. I actually prefer being busy and this is kind of torture. Might even start looking to lateral if things don’t pick up soon. Thoughts?
