Hi! I am a recent law school graduate who started her first job remotely during the pandemic remotely. I have had concerns about the following: 1. Starting a job remotely is very difficult (I started a new job and we are remote about a month ago). You have to make a lot more of an effort to build relationships when you are working remotely. I would encourage asking your coworkers and manager if it would be ok to set up a zoom meeting to talk about how things are going. This kind of thing usually transitions into some personal conversations. The first couple of meetings it might feel kind of awkward but you will get used to it. Building those relationships really is important for your success, particularly as a new attorney. As far as your performance, chances are if your performance wasn’t ok, you would know by now. I would encourage you to ask for feedback. If your manager isn’t seeing your work product on a regular basis if you’re working very independently, set up a zoom meeting with them and ask if you can just have a discussion about how you have been handling your cases and ask for them to provide any feedback/insight. Also you should ask other attorneys for things they have done on their own cases so you do get the chance to see other people’s work product. I think that’s invaluable as a new attorney.

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I particularly like the idea of reaching out to other attorneys so I can see their work. Right now I just ask questions, but it would be good to see the answer to my questions in context.

Deciding between $450k condo vs $750k house. Currently live in and will always live in San Diego. $260k TC. Have $100k available for down payment. Don’t want to pay rent anymore. Would you recommend house or condo? House is shabby in up and coming area 30min from beach but 1500sq ft 4 bedroom. Condo is close to beach and 2 bedroom at 800sq ft. HOA fee $200 per month. Travel a lot and ideally can rent place out but not pivotal. Condo and house appreciation are equal over past 10 years

Recently laid off from Sr. Consultant role in energy in Houston. 4 years exp in supply chain/procurement and 2 in consulting (mainly tech PM work aka scrum). Have my MBA and PSM 1 cert. I know opportunities are far and few between right now, but looking for either energy or supply chain consulting role. Open to travel once resumed. If anyone is aware of a need, I'd appreciate the help!

I’m an early promoter manager at a small boutique firm and love my bosses, the wlb, and the pay. However, I feel I have become complacent. Should I try to move firms during this hot market knowing short term pay, job title, and MBA admission chances next fall will probably take a hit? I want to keep learning and growing but feel it has stagnated, and long term compensation upside is higher at a larger firm

Is Data Scientist at Deloitte a good move if my goal is short-term experience building (2-3 yrs) while looking for another move to a better WLB company? 4 YOE in Analytics, but feel like I've missed out on certain soft skills (ex: prioritizing, presenting, managing client expectations, etc) not being in a consulting role + I've plateau'd with basic analytics hence the move for DS.
