The M with 6 yrs you're talking about would most likely be people with MBA degrees who get hired at Con level.

It's expected that in 6years or less they'll easily make it to M
And add a couple of more years for SM.
It always depends on what has been your work responsibilities. If you start in consulting directly from campus, you get the experience early on and are able to take higher responsibilities quickly.
If you join after spending few years in industry, then it sets you back by 2-3 years.
On the top of it if you went for MBA after say 4-5 years of work ex then it further delays your level against # years of exp.

Not sure if you are into tech or non tech, from tech perspective yes they are desperate to hire, I interviewed for senior consultant and they were ready to offer senior manager at the end looking at other offers in hand, have 9 years of exp, not sure if it’s the same for non tech
Speaking from DUSI tax - a 6 yoe professional was laterally hired as a manager. This person has no client interaction experience whatsoever.
It’s safe to say that at this point, the firms are only worried about headcount and not actual quality.
EY GDS, for example, is offering very good packages to ex-employees. And by that I mean above market packages.

I thought India entities are hiring like this. Never thought this is happening in US entities also.
I have seen many M n SM not from tier1 or 2 college with 6 to 9 yoe. Not 1 or 2 but many. I don't know how?
