Who the f actually enjoys design anymore.. 😩
16 YOE in design? You should be in principal or director level / 140k-200k
Yes. Most people I started with are ACD or CD or supervisor of some sort.
I had a car accident and then a layoff a few years back and so I have some problems with interviews (aphasia, confusion, anxiety and lack of confidence). I feel stuck.
I asked for a benchmarking evaluation because I feel my compensation is off kilter. All I can do for now without another outside offer, I suppose.
With 16 YOE? Start looking elsewhere.
I was a graphic designer with 10 YOE and got $79K, no bonus, no stocks. The promotion in graphics field in that company was too slow and the ceiling was too low for today’s living expense. I moved to UX design and now got $120K base with 8% bonus and 25% stocks. People seem to get promoted faster and there are so many possibilities with even higher pay at FAANG companies. Just want to show what a slight change in design field can get you.
Start looking.
As far as path having a senior or greater title doesn’t mean you need to deal directly with clients. My team has several career paths for those who are interested in doing the tough problem solving. They are technical leads and while they are still mentors they have no reports. We give them tough problems and they chew on those for weeks and come back with solutions. It’s fantastic.
May know someone looking if you're willing to DM the job link
Mentor
You can be in an IC role, with no management responsibilities, for at least double your current comp. Start talking to recruiters!
Ok thanks. Also I’m a graphic designer not product or ux if that matters
I’ve got the skill and experience - but would prefer NOT to speak to clients bc of my anxieties, so I feel like that’s holding me back from higher titles/positions that I’ve interviewed for.
I’d prefer it because I have a lot of experience and knowledge- but certainly not tied to it
