IRAs and backdoors have nothing to do with your 401k. Are you saying Merrill Lynch because you have both 401k and IRAs with them? Or are talking about mega backdoor of 401k after-tax to 401k Roth? I believe pro rata comes into play when you have traditional IRA funds and you're trying to convert only a portion of them to Roth. All funds, even the unconverted ones, come into play.

OP - I think you still might be confused. You can have Roth contributions for 401k or IRA. The backdoor is only applicable for IRA accounts. So who is the account holder for your IRA? And do you have any funds in a traditional IRA?

Help - how do I fight claims by scammer healthcare providers? I recently went to 2 different providers. Dentist, made appt via Zocdoc to see a dentist that was in network. Another dentist at the location saw me instead who was out of network. I have text evidence they said it would be covered before visit. Claim was denied - asking for ~500 dollars. Saw a specialist who’s office staff verified my insurance would fully cover the claim. Get the claim, says they are out of network. Owe 600.
