Hi,
I love developing Desktop applications and been doing several small projects with .net C# and SQL server but I can't actually find any job and freelancing is very hard compared to something like web development.
Should I start over and learn web? Or I need to enhance my skills in desktop?

P.S I don't know what should I learn next as I don't see companies' requirements.
P.S I have been making small projects for 4 years now

Coming from a desktop-application background myself, I've done quite a bit of server-side over the past 15+ years. I'm working more on my client-side JS skills now, for exactly the reason that almost nobody is doing desktop any more. The closest I'm aware of is mobile (iOS/Android) app development, and I'd like to break into that as well: the key there is to develop a couple of simple apps and put them up on the relevant store for free, it's the simplest way to demonstrate that you know what's involved!
Also, I picked up a big ol' book (old-school, I know) "Beginning PHP and MySQL" -- the editor of the version happened to be my team manager -- I haven't done anything with it, and I assume that most of it will be at a lower-level, but it should at least provide a wealth of basic information & concepts for "rolling my own web-application" regardless of languages & database options.
Easiest way to learn a new tech stack is to do something fun: take the small projects you've already made, and port them to web-apps and/or mobile apps. And don't think of it as "starting over," almost all of the skills you've developed over the past few years still apply. Think of it as "expanding your skill set."
Unless your small projects contain intellectual property you'd rather not give away, consider putting all your code on GitHub, making it publicly accessible, and putting the URL on your resumé.

Hi All, I have been in TCS for the past 3.5 years. I have asked my supervisor for promotion, he gives excuses of Band criteria and COVID-19.
Will my promotion to ITA happen automatically once I complete 4 years in TCS or will it have to be done by the Actual process of begging managers and HRs to get the promotion.
Additionally, if I do get promoted to ITA, how many months will I have to wait to resign.
TIA.

So I’m in industry from big 4, and a colleague with same yoe comes from MBB. High paying tech firm. I think I work harder and produce quality content at speed, but they can hold executive conversations that tend to impress senior stakeholders.

Big 4 produces work horses and MBB produces leaders. Also they could be a work horse too since I don’t have full visibility.

Anyone have similar experiences or do I just suck at executive stakeholder management?

I'm a SWE from Italy. Love my country but salary and taxes here are outrageous. Got 2yrs experience in fullstack and data science, 2masters, a peer reviewed paper and outperform all my peers for 24k€ a year.
I'm thinkin about landing a remote SWE job (leetcoding and building a portfolio this summer).
Have you got some advice? Is it possible to work for US remotely without visa? What other countries pay well? Is it possible to land a 100k$+ with this kind of experience and working from Italy?

CS and SWE is great in that it can be applicable to a great range of fields, to create immensely helpful tools for other things.

What are some areas where SWE intersects with things that help people, country, and the world? Now also add in making a decent living and generally competitive with other SWE “industry”.

Things that come to my mind are government-related, military, some fintech. Sciences have great need of computing, and can have big impact, but income is less clear.
