PLEASE HELP! I’m a first year commercial litigation associate at a boutique firm. I am deciding between two offers. One is to go in-house paying roughly the same as I make now. The second offer is from big law as a commercial real estate associate, paying double.

I would love to go in-house and never worry about billable hours again but the big law money is super tempting. Advice?? Is the money really worth it?

After trying to find an in-house job since July, I finally have an offer at a company that I really like. Total comp is around $20-25k off from where I want to be. Equity comp may be the only way to bridge the gap but they said they don’t normally include equity comp at the corporate counsel level, which is odd. I have found that most companies do. Has anyone received equity comp in negotiations where it wasn’t originally on the table?

Does anyone use LinkSquares contract management software? Any thoughts? My company is considering purchasing it but would like some honest reviews before doing so.

Has anyone recently made the switch to in house and now feel unorganized and less productive than when billing hours? For what it is worth, I’ve received good reviews and my superiors seems to be pleased with my work. Litigation was just so task based because of needing to hit billables, so without that requirement I feel a little like a fish out of water.

Anyone know anything about leases on cell towers on property? Specifically, can a charter school enter a lease for the use? We are not for profit and unsure if we can. I’ll be browsing through TX governing school laws...but curious if anyone knows anything about it...

Well-traveled people: what seem like the best major market cities to live in with access to great in-house jobs (FAANG, adjacent companies, etc.). Some markets seem like really fun places to live but seem insanely expensive (San Fran, DC). Others seem like great comp to cost of living ratios but you seem like you’d basically be in a boring suburb (Raleigh, etc.) or have major drawbacks (arctic weather in Chicago, etc.). Maybe I’m totally off base though. Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

How much does in house counsel at a place like Chevron, Exxon, or Total make? There are some open positions, and I’m very interested in getting out of biglaw, but I don’t know if I can afford a large paycut without paying off leans for a few more years…

I just started in-house for the first time, as a first in house (IP) attorney in the US. I’m new to the role and the company is new to having an attorney. Please recommend where I can learn about in house best practices? For example, I’d like to set up proper communication processes to maintain attorney client privilege whenever possible, and other new processes to mitigate basic legal risks. Is there a comprehensive checklist or a guide?

Anyone in-house counsel for a portfolio company where the sponsor won’t let you talk with OC acting on behalf of the portfolio company? These are transactional lawyers and the sponsor manages this particular area on behalf of all portfolio companies. I don’t like being told I can’t speak with someone representing my company but not sure I should care. Any thoughts?

Applying for some in-house M&A jobs, and a big focus is being able to run deals. I of course feel very comfortable running deals from the corporate side and managing multiple teams, but have obviously always had an army of specialists in biglaw. How does this work in house? I’m primarily thinking from a tax perspective — I likely wouldn’t be able to structure a deal (and don’t think many of my peers could either) since we always rely on a tax team, but not sure if that is an expectation.

Anyone relate to this or have advice? I’m about to quit big law and want to go in house after a few months of recharge. In my mind, I can’t possibly imagine myself being excited and energized about work (even though in house objectively aligns with my goals/style). I just feel so lazy and wonder if I’m just “ruined” mindset/energy wise….
