What I would do personally is counter offer. Ask for $125k, ask for a sign on bonus and request a hybrid work situation or completely remote if that’s what you’re looking for. Will this job require you to move to another city? Ask for moving assistance expenses to be covered for. Advocate for yourself and ask for more because you deserve it. If you don’t ask, you’ll never know. Never settle!
Hey not sure where you are interviewing. I’ve never heard such a low cap, especially in todays hyper inflationary environment. Please keep looking and don’t fall for this. You deserve better.
Aim for 135k base at least
You can always counter offer. The question is always whether you are willing to walk away.
Would this be a step up in your current salary? If this is only a 5%-10% increase on your current salary and it's not your first choice and you would potentially get other offers definitely take some time to think about it. It's also harder in my opinion to negotiate salary once you have accepted the job and move within the company vs. when you are joining and new. Is this also a promotion or a lateral position move? Lastly what industry is this? Range varies across tech, CPG etc. so I would also think about that as well. 7-8 years is a good chunk of experience OP, so unless this offer is a good step up from your current employment I would take a step back.
Never thought about a sign on bonus! I'd have to read up on that. Thank you!
You also could ask for time to think about it but they could also walk away. Do you expect another offer in the next couple of days? I wouldn’t ask for more than a couple of days to think about it. If you could (and you think it may change), say that you need to talk it over with someone and you will let them know Tuesday (but only if you expect other offers by then). If you ask for too long they will think you are not serious and move on.
Ahh, thank you! I appreciate the advice
Why bother even countering unless you plan to accept? One advantage of reasonable counter is that they will take time to get approval which buys you time. Sometimes they will ask if you will accept if they come back with approval.
I would accept because the benefits and culture is good. They just weren't my first choice. A recruiter brought them up, and I thought, oh why not, let's try it out with an interview and it went better than expected.
