Congrats! Sounds amazing! May I ask about TC?

That will depend on the role/department. They are transparent though. I was told the range for my job during the screening process. They’ve done market studies for pay by role and tend to beat it. They also don’t seem to lowball candidates. I was offered too range without negotiating vs my husband who also is moving to a start-up with triple the amount of experience than asked for, who was offered the mid for the range with zero flexibility to increase when he tried to negotiate.

Please tell us more about your transition! Thinking about tech & [something tbd] for myself too!

Of course! I went back to my old company for 4 weeks before my start date with League. Transitioning to League with an infant was easier that transitioning back to my old company. I’m in Customer Success at League and the team is fantastic - almost entirely female led. People ask about your capacity before assigning things to you, if someone wants to meet with me after 3, i get asked if it will mess up daycare pickup before the meeting is scheduled. I feel like i have such voice in how things are done. I’ve apologized for swimming out of my lane only to be told that my opinions are welcome and there is no need to apologize. I was asked if i felt ready to start working with clients and told it was up to me to decide when i started rolling onto client facing work. The company is based out of Canada and all of the US employees I’ve chatted with say the same thing - we can’t imagine working for a non-Canadian company ever again. They’ve recently shifted to a fully remote model. If you are near an office, you can decide how often you go in. My leader has made a point to say she is not micromanaging anyone’s time. We can manage our own time and as long as the work is getting done, she’s happy. I have to say - it feels true. I wanted to pitch a system that I’ve used in the past that made my life easier, and my leader said “sure.” In the meeting where i pitched, she told me she’d already looked into it and scheduled a demo. I was in an industry ops role for 3 years before this and consulting before that - this is the first time i haven’t felt like every second of my day isn’t expected to be allocated to something. I met with other leaders because they want my thoughts on how to approach things and they are even transparent about how they still sometimes feel like they spend too much time in meetings without enough time to execute, but that no one seems to be breathing down our necks about it since we all feel we are in the same boat. The CEO recently hosted an all employee meeting and said that employees have his permission to say no and push back- too much on our plates is leaderships problem to solve, not ours as individuals. I’ve realized that level of empowerment is what I’ve been missing in my career. That and a company that aligns the employee experience with the customer experience.

Do they sponsor visa?

That i am not sure of. I’m sure our talent team would provide that info via a screening call if you were to apply!

Just got a job offer with significant raise and will be a change in job role😃. How should I go about talking with my current people manager about the move? I want to keep good relationship with this manager. I’m planning to apply to MBA this Fall (around Sept/Oct 2021) and will need recommendation letters, and would love to discuss with her NOW about writing me a recommendation letters around August (which is after I leave the company already). Very anxious about this move 😟

Hi! I have two offers and I’m not sure what to do. One is with a small firm that serves as outside counsel to medical practices (leasing, employment issues and acquisitions are primary work load) and the other is in-house for a pharmaceutical company (managing outside counsel, vendor contracts, privacy). The firm pays much better (1800 hours, flexible wfh) but I feel like the experience in house would go further in becoming a GC down the road. Please help!

(MEN’S INPUT APPRECIATED) Did you have an anniversary or holiday that you S/O knocked out of the park? Maybe they planned an unforgettable date, or they found the perfect gift... What was your most memorable celebration? What do you get someone who has everything they could want? Looking for ideas, esp. during Covid! On top of that, our anniversary is a weeknight, so unfortunately no travel.

Private school worth it? I think of it as insurance. Less chance your kid is a screw up, sets the baseline of what school he/she gets into higher. makes sure they don’t get lost in the weeds with low student teacher ratio. Word of warning, check your employee handbook about unused PTO. Apparently in New York State, even with labor laws protecting unpaid PTO, if it’s written in any employee handbook or material that unused PTO is waived when you quit, that‘s all the employer has to do to get out of paying you.
