I have experience. It takes years to master it and LOTS to intentional planning.
Interesting, can you talk a bit more about intentional planning?
And it requires a great deal of ACTIVE teamwork between the teachers doing it together.
I agree with Michigan and Texas. It definitely has to be cooperative and intentional. Both teachers have to be transparent about what is expected of the other and they have to agree on the model that works best for the classroom (which can vary daily or by subject or even hourly). I hope it wasn't sprung on you without training...😟
Really helps to bring about the unity!

It can be, but with a good partnership and co-teaching training, I LOVE IT! Take a step back to find each other's strengths and then allow each to blossom.
It’s a bit of both. I’m in the same boat. It’s definitely not set up correctly. Supposed to have volunteer teachers, lots of planning time, training, and a bubble set of kids grade level wise so you can hit most at once and reteach when necessary. I’ve also found several actual studies done by professors that state it shouldn’t be done above elementary level. In my case, we have 140 kids, all the sped, most of the 504, and most of the esl, plus any Baha’i or kids the other two “teachers” couldn’t handle. It is a dumpster for meeting the kids minutes only and any concern gets you targeted like I’m just not doing my job. This will be my last year
What?
Co-teaching is a partnership. Develop the lesson plans together, monitor grades together, and establish a routine of who will teach and when.
