Hi I'm a new sales dev't rep (SDR), and I was wondering how to mentally prepare for cold calling. Would you guys mind sharing any preparation rituals, attitudes, or mental framing you might find helpful? I would appreciate any general advice.

You’re asking the wrong questions and worrying about sth that’s not even real.

Look the truth is it’s ALWAYS going to be scary and uncomfortable, idc if it’s a warm lead a cold lead a friend a stranger, you’re a “veteran” or novice, whatever dude get over it -you gotta embrace the fear.

Below are some tricks that I’ve always done and continue to do:

Always startwith the scariest calls first. Everyone after that gets easier

ELIMINATE TIME out of calls. The longer you wait to make that call you’re dreading the MORE fear will freeze you. Pick up the phone and flipping dial and move on. You’ll eventually find your rhythm.

That first part sure is a wake-up call. I guess I may be thinking too hard about it. I'm just really nervous about this, but I guess if I do it repeatedly I will eventually find what's best for my flow. thank you for this! great advice

Call with a purpose, and know what you need to get out of it if you connect to someone.

Learn the market and the product well, and the motivations of the persona you’re calling.

Wean yourself off scripts early, and learn to have a conversation instead of a pitch.

That is some really sound advice. That last bit about having a conversation will be achievable once I gain additional confidence. Thank you so much!

I stopped cold calling all together. I hate to call people without any reason to talk to me.
My trick: I always send an email the day before I plan to call someone. Then I can start my conversation by asking if they received my email. Boom, it does not feel like a cold call anymore and I have a conversation starter.

Definitely know WHY and WHO you’re calling ahead of time. Truth is cold calling always is one of the last things we actually feel like doing most of the time, but it’s so much easier if you take a couple of minutes to prepare before each. Also things like finding your hype music to listen to before or standing up/pacing while calling can help!

Cold calling is great! Someone once told me ‘Turn your brain off’, I found this great, I turned off the ‘what if’ questions in my brain and would just do it. It then allowed me to really focus on on the calls and handle the objections.

This week I started a listen through my entire record collection from front to back. I’ll be doing this on workdays when I am in my home office. Did it a few years ago. Collection has grown a lot since then. But I’m not doing comedy and spoken word this time. Too hard to work to those. I expect it to take 4-6 weeks at least. Depending on how many calls I have.

Was just let go today due to performance. They said it was because I didn't close a sale in 4 months. However for these 4 months I've been grooming multiple focus accounts that are pretty much a slam dunk at this point. I have multiple quotes on my Directors desk to review before I can present to a customer (worth $500K). These quotes have been sitting there for almost two weeks but the performance issue is on my end?

What would you all have done differently?

Looking for some guidance/feedback. I’m currently a director of sales at a mid size Saas firm. I scaled the sales team from 3 to 52. Been a director for 3 years with same company and watched 3 vps and 2 directors come and go. There’s limited to no growth opportunity. So I started the hunt. I have a panel interview with the CEO/cro/ and cmo for a smallish >50 employees. I’m going for a vp of sales... Any ideas on what kind of questions I should prepare myself for?

Hi Fishies,

I’m looking for some advice on the best companies to apply to as an AE/ Account Manager new to the North American market! The majority of the positions that I have previously worked are combined closer and customer service positions, completing end-to-end sales including the hunt, the close and the retention process!

My experience is in the FMCG sector, Real Estate and hospitality. I am interested in positions in the tech industry and would appreciate any referrals to companies.
