I think while you're attempting to pivot you shouldn't target on such big companies. Try applying to other roles that will give you skills necessary to apply to Google etc later on
I agree. When I first started my career I worked for a smaller company and being a part of a more intimate team allowed me to get more well-rounded experience that really made my application stand out when I applied for my next position. Good luck!
Will reach out
I agree with the others - a small or mid-sized company will give you much better opportunity and exposure that you can use to apply to the big guns later. FAANG has certain expectations around experience, and you might find yourself drowning if you're jumping in too early. Start with a smaller team, learn the ropes and then start working your way up
I would never discourage someone from aiming high, but also consider other companies for sure. If you don't have any luck with referrals try connecting with people from those companies on LinkedIn, comment on their posts, etc.
I'd suggest targeting those companies, for the same sort of role you have now. Then you can more easily move around. If you'd like to hear how I did it or I can help in anyway, reach out to me on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/alanjstein
