When negotiating/discussing I suggest never do comparison with peers/others. It generally doesnât work well. Instead make a case for yourself, why you should be paid more for all your achievements/success stories.
57k in 2019? Wow. You might do better at McDonaldâs working overtime...
Yup! Thanks for the encouragement.
Currently in the comp consulting practice. Even with a 3% merit I am below 60k.
I tried negotiating when I accepted my offer for 65k but they said that was not going to happen. Very unhappy to learn that my peer was offered 65k+ out of undergrad as well (same office). Super demotivating. đ
Bounce for somewhere else, youâll likely have to, to get what you deserve
How can consulting even offer people below 60k in LA?
I got move of a raise after only 4 months at Booz, you deserve better

You can enjoy your work and be compensated well. You should prep your resume
Life is all about what you negotiate. You get what you negotiate for. Period. The art of negotiation. Learn it.

Lead with your personal strengths / achievements, be ready with senior leaders who could vouch for your work. Make sure to mention how much you enjoy what you do, the time youâve put in to learning, how you enjoy your teams. Then say that you also believe youâre paid below market, even among peers at your firm with similar records. Ask what the firm can do to bump your salary. Know what your target is in case you have to say it. Keep the tone positive and make sure you highlight your personal achievements, not just âI want this salary because Bob makes this much."
Towers Watson handles a great deal of actuarial and plan administration work, so you have a solid name. Here are your options:
- Devour any firm provided training and certifications, so they will increase merit base.
- start looking outside.
- Apply for Grad school
- Quit and spend a year abroad
What role and function are you? Actuarial, broker, hr, etc. I believe undergrad entry level actuarial analysts are starting at 65k in DC so definitely negotiate for more. Usually our firm is pretty competitive salary-wise so this seems like itâs specific to your PPD.
Yeah I totally know how the actuaries grind to get it done on top of busy season đȘ honestly think I just got lowballed by the People Mgr
