Context B2b Tech company: Product Manager (PM) takes care of all things product. They intersect the engineering teams to the rest of the company. Depends on the company and tenure but PMs can influence product strategy and can speak to the product roadmap with the public/clients. They also gather information from clients and sales to take back to engineering teams for feature prioritization.
Product Marketing Manager (PMM) works really closely with PMs to translate everything that comes from product, that can be technical, to business value for the customers and sales. They’re in charge of creating all content, public and internal. In some companies they are also in charge to enable the team on the products. The main job of the PMM is to be a subject matter expert and intersect with the marketing machine.
