Hi, I’m in need of some salary negotiation advice (continued)

I Work for a boutique firm and up for promotion early next year. Fairly new firm so no idea in what to expect for salary bands. Last time I got a merit increase, it was more than I was expecting. I know I’m doing well and leadership has noticed that I can deliver. I recently moved from the Midwest to east coast so unsure how to proceed with a potential negotiation if 1) I don’t know what to expect and 2) my move was self-initiated. Reality is, my COL is much higher now than when I was living in the Midwest and I’d my them to take that into consideration (even a little bit), but I know that they don’t *have* to. When I moved, there was no salary adjustment since it was self-Initiated. But, if they were to recruit someone externally based out of my area - they’d have to take into account the external hire’s COL into an offer a little bit, right? Even if the answer is no, I’m wondering how I can frame this conversation with my director - whole realistically need to escalate to the partner I roll up into. Any advice is appreciated, TIA!

Simply explain the facts As the move was your choice, expect nothing, the firm didn’t ask you to move, why would they pay you more for something they didn’t want? Worth a shot, just explain the situation, don’t use emotion, and don’t be unrealistic

Right, that is what I would like to do but I guess what I’m getting tripped up on is that I don’t have any data points to compare myself against (idk if I’m in line with other top performers so maybe I cannot ask for more or am I in the middle and can ask for more). So yes I have contributed to internal initiatives that is not billable work and I don’t expect them to reward me for a move I made for myself, but I also do feel I always go above what is expected of me and I know that they see that - but not sure how to go about asking for more $ if I don’t know target bands of my peers

I know a lot of people are upset today with comp coming out and I don’t want to be insensitive but I finally crossed the 6-figure line! I know a lot of people will laugh at this goal but I wanted to make 6-figures before 30 (I am 29). As a 2nd generation American, I wanted this goal for all the sacrifices my parents made to leave their homes and families to give me the opportunity that the US provides!

Interviewing with a company and from glassdoor, looks like 100k is the average TC for the area. If pressed by the recruiter for salary expectations, thoughts on saying “105-115k”?

Current comp 130k, rejected an offer of 150k in the hope of “fishing” for a higher comp. Also the company is very small and I’m concerned it might impact my exit opportunities. Did I made the right decision?

I keep making stupid mistakes on this project (not seeing items already sent or not seeing support buried in files, missing obvious updates on status tracker). I feel like I’m going to get a bad review and not sure what to say to my senior like sorry I’ve been an idiot this week? What can I do to salvage this.

Any fish with experience moving to an internal, non-consulting role with their firm and have an opinion on making the move now? Would be promotion (which I am unlikely to get in my area of the org due to freezes) but very aware of the old adage “if it’s not billable, it’s killable.” No layoffs yet and no pressure for me to move out of consulting, but this may be an option to level up and maybe have a better exit in 18 months. Thoughts?
