I am currently getting a Master's of Library and Information Sciences, teaches information technology but it doesn't specialize in it. I am interested in working in UX Design. I have a BA in Psychology. Would it be beneficial to get into one of those UX boot camps to create a portfolio or do I just do one and begin to apply for entry UX roles? Thank you 🙏🏼

Fill your book with spec work.
You obviously had a good enough student book to get hired. Go back to it. Update it, add to it. make it better.
I'll echo what ACD said. Keep working on your book. Reach out to people for feedback. And keep trying to get a job. Or an internship.
Make your student book the book you know it could’ve been.
Millions of kids need tutoring right now. You'll get paid and do some sort of good. Consider being a teacher. School districts are always hiring.
No. I was a teacher for a bit. It’s tough. A soul sucking mental beatdown. The highs are really high, but they are few and far between. Yeah, it sounds like advertising, but you can’t have a beer at lunch when your day is shit, you are pitching for to some of the toughest clients for 6 hours straight , and you take work home every night.
My first semester I had a colleague who’d been teaching for 20 years, she still is and she’s great, tell me “It’s a sucker job, it really is. But I still like it.” But nothing, except maybe subbing, which you need a credential for anyways now, prepares you for it.
Raise your hand at work. Are there interesting projects you’d like to be involved in (even without billing)? Cool pitches? A potential mentor you admire? Something will stick. It’s easy to say add spec work or read a creative annual, but I found at the start of your career that it’s really hard to create the kind of work you’d feel comfortable sharing without the guidance and tools to do so. You just need one or two projects that you can contribute to and tell a great story about. And when in doubt, there’s a ton of amazing pro bono work to do with clients that need help. Can you ask a CD to join you?
