I'm seeing A LOT of interesting positions opening up with @Microsoft (Customer Success Manager, Account Executive, Sales Specialist etc). My experience and core strengths do align these roles but I don't have tech experience. If you’re a Microsoft recruiter or are currently in these roles I'd love to hear your feedback on transitioning to this space. Current position is $45k year, full time but only a 30hr week. Also, no responsibility and little to no actual work. I play Switch or read most of the time. Was bored and picked up a side project, which impressed the boss. I have a meeting on Thursday with the president of the company for a Social Media/Marketing dual role position. I *know* they’re going to lowball me at $50k. How can I turn it down with tact OR convince them that I’ll need $70k+ to be worth the stress and hassle?

What are some areas where SWE intersects with things that help people, country, and the world? Now also add in making a decent living and generally competitive with other SWE “industry”.

Things that come to my mind are government-related, military, some fintech. Sciences have great need of computing, and can have big impact, but income is less clear.

So, a month ago I was offered a data engineer position at a fintech firm. I was going to accept it. The interview process had taken over a month. Then, at the last minute, an old coworker/friend - who is a manager at FAANG now - randomly offered me a data engineer __contractor__ position at a FAANG. I’m new in a dual media relations/digital role. I found myself surprised to see that the digital team actually has account editing video/designing graphics. Is this normal? Before I was at a larger agency where creative would be called in to do this work. We have a creative team at this new agency so I’m not sure why they aren’t called to support. My company just said no overnight stays unless 150 miles or more and we can’t go over 149 per night. The boss said it came down from corporate but no one on the sales team got a corporate email. It seems like this is just a instruction from our immediate boss and people with big territories are upset because this new policy makes it more challenging to cover ground in certain areas of your territory. Is this a gold standard? Are all companies cutting back right now on sales team expenses?

Is it possible to make a million in any sales position? I see so many classes and books on how to be a millionaire by selling. Seems like BS.

My company covers in depth results each week, including meetings set/attended, wins, revenue, retention etc. I feel as if evaluating in such depth is detrimental to the psyche, as you never get to “ride the high.” In addition, some weeks are simply slower than others, and it’s not always representative of what the results at the end of the period or quarter will be. Is this not a big deal, and I’m I placing too much importance on it? Or is it beneficial to review results less frequently?

Can a company legally change my position and OTE? I was hired for a specific segment and now just weeks into the role they said they are moving me down a segment due to business needs. The salary is the same but the commission went down. Wether legal or not this is fucking insane.
