Hi 🐠! I’m looking to get a SUV for the family. I’m looking for something reliable <$50k. The Toyota 4Runner looks pretty nice. I need to still check out at the dealer, but wanted to put out feelers here. Anyone have a 4Runner with feedback or another recommendation? Thanks!!

I doubt you will find a new one for <$50k. The dealers are selling for above msrp and the used values have skyrocketed.

It's very dependable and is a tank, but that thing is an absolute dinosaur with mpg and tech to match.

For more modern SUVs, the Kia and Hyundai SUVs (Sorento/Telluride and Santa Fe/Palisade) are excellent options. That's what I'd look at if I were on the market for a new family SUV.

My partner just got rid of his nearly 20 year old 4Runner. He owned it for about a decade, barely took care of it, and it was still a really good car.

4Runner is a great choice, there is a good amount of space, no problem in the snow, and it’s very fun to take on trails all while being a reliable and sturdy vehicle. If you want less of a off roady vehicle I’d consider a highlander or a pilot

I own a 2020 4Runner, it’s a great car and as others have noted fuel efficiency is my only complaint.

I don’t have kids but you can easily fit 5+ with plenty of trunk space. Prices on new 4Runner are crazy right now so if you are open to it I’d recommend looking for a 1-2 year used. There is very minimal tech / features that they update every year compared to other vehicles, so you’re not missing out on much IMO.

It’s a nice car! My only concern would be MPG since that thing is a tank. Especially with gas prices right now

How many kids do you have in car seats/boosters? https://thecarseatlady.com/vehicles/suv/toyota-4runner/

A used Toyota Land Cruiser might be a good option aside from the 4Runner. A slightly used might still be a little more though than a new 4Runner. Better on road driving manners, plusher interior, lasts legitimately forever. They just discontinued the current model after like 10+ years. Neither are a bad choice

Honda Pilot.
