At a junior level I would have loved to go on a pitch. I learn a lot watching my CD present. As a mid level creative I'm not even allowed to be in the room due to "politics" in some client meetings so I actually think it's kind of cool they asked you.
@copywriter OP you get paid a salary yes? You've been paid for everything you do on the job. Including working on a pitch which pays for your paycheck. Can't believe that needs to be said. Your work ethic won't get you far inside a company, maybe you're meant to be freelance (just don't expect that person who asked you to go on a pitch to hire you, or any of his/her friends).
Because it's your job
There's that winners attitude
That’s the thing, it kind of IS a great learning experience. More work, yeah, thankless, yeah. But you will learn some shit that will help you down the road.
Ok so you're kinda lazy. That's fine, your prerogative but let's not pretend the original request was out of line or anything other than normal.
I don't understand how you're not getting paid? Are you not an employee there?
Seriously? I actually thought you were making fun of a junior copywriter who had that reaction.
"It'll be a great learning experience!"
If they don't pay me it's not my fucking job.
Oh boy OP, there is a lot of travel in this business that is not paid for in $ but experience and exposure. Buckle up.
All jokes aside, for any less-experienced folks following this thread, if you get a chance to pitch, take it. You'll learn a ton and make intra-agency connections that can help you advance faster.
Well you'll have plenty of free time when you're the first to go in the next round of layoffs. But of course you'll hop on to another job with the same lazy work ethic (because no one in this industry ever talks to one another).
Also I'm still not sure this isn't a joke/trolling attempt, mainly because you used the word patsy in normal conversation.
What do you mean? You're not paid to work? Or you want to be paid extra to pitch? I'm confused
You sound like a joy to work with. Shortsighted & self indulgent. Good luck to you.
When I was a junior I worked on 9 pitches in a year. The only thing I learned was that R/GA blows.
Ugh... you are paid to WORK. Quit going into death throws every time this reality sets in. This job can be hard but there are a lot of perks most people do not get. The idea of jumping ship and getting promoted gets harder the more you move up... eventually you need the experience to back it up.
Yeah, it's normal. A toxic culture is normal. Not valuing dimensions of life other than commerce is normal. Doesn't mean it's good. And lol at the lazy shit. I'm just nobody's patsy
wow, the advertising industry? being ableist by discriminating against people who will suffer major health complications if they nope out of overnight/OT work? what a surprise.
this industry is a flaming trash heap of people patting themselves on the back for upholding and celebrating toxic work conditions. we fought for a 40 hour work week for a reason. especially since the people who get hurt the most by these are usually underpaid junior role ppl who get pulled into working unpaid overtime under the pressures of a toxic industry and fear what happens if they say no. ridiculous.
