Q&A with Jessika Lora - March 27

Hi Jessika, great to hear from you! I am wondering, how did you get your job after consulting? Headhunter, job offering, “blind” initiative from your side, personal recommendation? Thx a lot!

Fantastic question. Network! Remember those people you got drunk with in college, or the folks you played soccer with, plus all the friends and friends of friends you have made over the years? Yes. Those people. Don’t be shy, hit them up. All of us grew up and got jobs, so tap into that. Your network will know what doors exist for you to go knock on within their employer, and in many cases they will even knock and hold the door open for you. Take advantage of that. But it starts waaaaaay before that: Be the kind of person that people within your network want to recommend to others. Kind, competent, intellectually thirsty people will always find a place in any organization! Speed read Dale Carnegie’s book. Someday when I have kids this will be a MUST read. Good manners and a *genuine* interest in others will always open doors.
