Hi Jessika, what are specific things (skills, experience) which prepared you to take on these challenges and be successful?

1) Manage your career as though it’s a company. This means manage your branding, skills, compensation, and network as though you are CEO of {First Name} {Last Name} Inc. If your current customer (which is your employer by the way, who is acting as a reseller of your services to their customers) is not compensating or marketing you sufficiently, then get competitive bids from other employers and pick the best one according to the factors that matter most to you. 2) Project Management. I will assume all of us are smart and that great ideas and issues can come from any team or customer. The differentiator is how you manage the ideas and issues and set expectations and execute. This makes or breaks most startups in my opinion, not funding. 3) Experience. I spent 4 years running eBay Motors between Deloitte and CarForce.io; it’s hard for me to think about what would have been missing if I jumped straight into entrepreneurship. I guess succinctly stated, consulting gave me the toolkit and eBay gave me experience using those tools to build and manage a whole business.
