Hi ladies - anybody got tips on staying fit while working ~60 hour weeks? I’ve gained 30 lbs 😢and I think sitting at my computer 10+ hrs a day plus stress eating is a contributor. Don’t want to lose my job but also don’t want to sacrifice my health anymore.

Intermittent fasting! Eat whatever you want but limit it to only 6 to 8 hours per day. Your body may take a few weeks to adjust, but your caloric intake will be lower and you will lose weight. There are health benefits beyond a trimmer figure.

I started around 3 weeks ago and have lost 4lbs! No additional exercise and haven't drastically changed by eating habits ( I'm already vegetarian). This book really helped me in explaining why IF works (insulin control) and helped me change my mindset around trying to eat as much as I can in my eating window. I try to keep my eating window to 6 hours a day (8 on the weekends), and I found that after a few weeks in, I don't feel the urge to overeat unecessarily as much anymore. But it is a lifestyle choice...it took me 1 year to get in the mindset to commit to it but I am so happy that I finally was able to get over the mental hump. https://www.amazon.com/Delay-Dont-Deny-Intermittent-Lifestyle/dp/1541325842

I carve out an hour to workout everyday no matter how busy I am. I actually have it blocked on my calendar and everyone can see what it's for so they know not to bother me. Take care of your health now, it's harder to reverse health problems once they become serious!

Lol that’s a great idea!!! I am going to do that for sure

I did a weight loss challenge with my friends... we all chipped in 50 bucks and whoever had the greatest % loss wins all the money. It was fun holding everyone accountable in a month.. we all lost weight!

like

Haha it’s like diet bet but probably easier!!

I just started using Noom. I was skeptical but Im feeling really encouraged and that it will keep me on track.

I also block 5-6 every day for a workout - I only move it for partners. (You train people how to treat you! :))

like

@PwC1 Have you ever used MyFitnessPal or other tracking apps? I’m curious about Noom but not sure how it’s different than just a calorie tracking app and can’t find clear info online easily

What you eat is 80%. Try to stick with whole foods and limit added sugar (and sweeteners).

Do you have 30 min to spare a day? If so, it’s just a matter of carving out a plan and sticking to it - go for a walk every morning or at lunch, maybe a jog or bike ride if you’re into it. 60 hr weeks suck, but exercising around it is mostly a matter of mindset and commitment. You got this!

like

Are you in advisory? Isn't that a lot for deliotte?

It’s not, and I’m not really sure. But with the layoffs I think everyone’s afraid to say no to work including myself

I set time to workout from 630-730 am and 7-745 Pm every day. Most the time I just walk 2 miles in the morning and HIIT in the afternoon! PM me if you need some home workouts or meal planning ideas.

I got myself a wellness coach 5 weeks ago because I have been working the same amount of hours as you so it was becoming easy to slip and go down that rabbit hole. 5 weeks later (using before and after pics) I’ve seen pretty big results. I personally just needed some to hold me accountable which is why I have this wellness coach I check in with every week for an hour. It worked for me

Count calories! You’re likely gaining because you are consuming too much based on your weight and activity level.

Use any of the free online resources, calculate your calories based on how much weight you want to lose and how fast and start logging!

For purely your mental health, also try and take any non-client/video calls on a walk. Seriously, it’s a game changer.

Eat ONLY home-cooked meals. Eat more salads and drink smoothies instead of heavy stuff. Keep carbs to a minimum. I don’t eat rice at all. Ive lost about 12 pounds with this over the last 2 months without exercise.

Honestly I skip a meal and take my coffee w no sugar. Doesnt help you lose but keeps you from gaining

I see a lot of suggestions for skipping meals, but having worked those crazy long hours, not eating is not the answer! Treat your body well, get your 8 hours, look into a meal prep service to save you the cook time and allow you to eat healthy. I would recommend exercising just for the mental break alone. Block out 30 minutes to go on a walk mid day or walk and talk for conference call that don’t require being at your laptop. Don’t stay attached to your work station. Get up regularly, just to make tea or open a window. And see if there are opportunities for you to scale back at work / offload things to someone else

Reminder: public health professionals are not recommending we stay at home indefinitely until there is a cure or vaccine. This a strawman.

They want us at home until we have sufficiently flattened *this* curve, have enough hospital capacity to handle a surge, and can adequately test and trace.

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.

The doctor’s are saying that that unforeseen was probably wrong with the embryos both times, but PGT is 97% accurate. What is the final round decision process like? Are delays common?

I had a great final round a few weeks ago, but the recruiter kept delaying (you’ll find out next week!) until they said they had to pause hiring
