I will take any advice on getting up early
I took 6.5 months with my first (associate) and 7 with my second (senior). Wish it had been possible to stay home longer. That time with them is so precious in my memory.
I took 6 months with each child, as a senior manager. Did not affect my MD promotion (MD was my choice - I did not want to be a partner).
Took 7 months off. Once you are off the grid for a month I think people forget about you so it’s fine haha.
first year SM in audit and just took 5 months off (12 weeks offered as maternity leave and added on FTO). Hands down best decision I’ve ever made. As a first time mom, I had no concept of how much my baby would still need me at 3 months and how sleep deprived I would still be! My heart breaks for moms who have to go back so soon after birth. Going back to work is hard as is, but jumping back into a demanding profession like ours is even more daunting. I definitely think the extra time off helped me mentally prepare for my return and when I returned I was ready to give it my all. Also, I don’t feel like my extra time off was perceived poorly and my performance rating was not impacted
I took 5 months. I was a SM 2 and it didn’t affect my promotion to MD at all.
Did you folks take time off without pay for the extended time?
No I used my director sabbatical and all of my vacation
4 months... small local firm. I believe it did hinder my career progression because the firm is run by sexists. But hey, I ultimately realized this and left the firm and am much better off now.
I took 6 months as a M3 and did not get promoted to senior manager. I started my leave in January so was gone for most of busy season and half the performance year. Honestly I didn’t really care though. And I got promoted the next year.
I took 6.5 months as S2 (1.5 months without pay) and did not get promoted to manager with my peer group. I started leave in May so was gone most of busy season as well. I got mid year promoted this year and still got my manager bonus at the same time, so I never felt like it really impacted progression. The exact same thing just happened this year to my closet work friend (both same LoS) where she missed manager promo after 6 months of leave. Sucks but time spent with bonding with baby is such a priceless memory.
