Hi ladies. I received a speeding ticket over the weekend and assumed if I paid it off, I’d get the deferred adjudication option. However, I just found out I'm not allowed that option because I was 20 miles over the speed limit. Question: Is there a way to determine how it would affect my insurance if I don’t fight the ticket?

What state are you in? Was reckless driving added? In Virginia, 20 over *can* mean jail time.

Ask about TDLR defensive driving classes to get the points removed from your license. Looks like the average insurance rate goes up 15% in Texas for 20 over - better than a lot of places!

Do you have group legal? I’ve used our corp plan to fight tickets and have been 4/4. Otherwise, fight it in court. Delay, delay, delay and schedule for inconvenient days/times to increase the chances the cop won’t show.

Hi EY2, what’s group legal? I work at RSM and not sure if we have that.

Were you in the state your car Is register in/you are licensed in? I’ve had 2 out of state tickets somewhere around the 20 mile above marker (whoopsies) that were never actually reported to whatever agency they are supposed to be (I had to pay the fine, but my insurance/local registry had no idea It ever happened). I think that’s not super uncommon for out of state tickets. If you’re close by it’s worth fighting- often they don’t show up!

Yes I was which is why I’m very worried it’ll ding me :( It’s in a town 240ish miles away from where I live too.

I got a ticket in Kentucky going 22 over and a week after I got a letter about wiping it from my record if I did online traffic school- see if there’s something like that that you can do

like

Unfortunately this was in city that’s notorious for issuing tickets and I was way above the speed limit and will not qualify for online traffic school.

I’m in Texas. My friend has gone to court for two speeding tickets and both times the cops never showed up so she only had to pay court fees. My husband had a ticket for crossing a doubled line and called the judge and they offered him “double or nothing”. Basically, if he got caught for any driving infraction in the next 90 days (speeding, crossing lines, stop signs, etc) he would have to pay double amount of both tickets. If he didn’t get a second ticket, he didn’t have to pay the first. He chose that option and was fine. He had some work friends suggest that and it worked for them too.

Hi KPMG 1, thank you for the advice. The ticket was in Sonora Texas (Sutton County). I did some research and discovered they are extremely strict and tickets are their cash cow. I called the court office and they said I didn’t qualify for the double or nothing (equivalent to deferred adjudication, I think) option. If it helps - I was doing 103/80.

Recently made the jump from mostly insurance defense work where my average billable rate was around $225/hr. Now the average billable rate is probably about $450/hr. Would I be able to get away with my insurance defense billing practices. I was averaging about 2800/yr before. Would that be cool in big law?

Hi all, I realize this isn’t a medical community but would still appreciate insights. I started Trintillix for anxiety / depression but ultimately insurance wouldn’t cover it. I switched to Wellbutrin and didn’t feel anything. I also now need to get off Wellbutrin because of some other medical things. What successes have people had for anxiety / depression? I have a history of eating disorders so really won’t take anything that might make you gain weight. Realize this is a tall order, but TIA.
