I think you should speak up. I know it’s scary because it’s a new role, but I think we have prioritize our well being. I think maybe it’s worth mentioning that due to health reasons (you don’t have to explain beyond that) that you can give a maximum commitment of X. However, I think if you showcase the level of productivity you can do in the time frame you are available, it should cancel out the hourly expectations. When you have the conversation, focus on what you can do and focus on results. If you are delivering there, I don’t expect you’d have a problem. If this isn’t a conversation you can have, is this really the place for you?
Thanks so much , it really make sense. Thanks for inputs !
Hi!
I think you should be fine telling your manager that. Most companies understand that work life balance is important and if they don’t value then they don’t deserve you. Good luck!
I would set really clear boundaries and set them early on (so like yesterday 👏🏻). Let them know you have responsibilities outside of work (as said you don’t have to go into detail, some people have kids and some (I’m also going through fertility treatments) are trying to have them) and you’re happy to put in the required 8-5 but you do need to prioritize your outside of work hours as well and need a balance to avoid burnout. I would say if they’re not receptive to your boundaries and needs now, they definitely won’t be once you do become pregnant and are planning for a newborn, etc. good luck! I know how hard this is to juggle, I really hope you find a good balance ❤️
Thanks so much for inputs and support 🤗
I wouldn’t focus on the number of hours (unless you are an hourly employee) but more on what kind of level of output they are expecting. As the saying goes, work smarter, not harder.
Yes so true !

Working more than a standard 8 comes with being salaried. The rule is that yes, you should only have 8 hour work days. The exception is that a day here and there will be scattered in where you’ll be required to work more hours to ensure hard deadlines are met. And if you’re WFH, you’ll likely have more days where you’re not working a full 8 than overtime.
You should have a chat with the appropriate people so your boundaries are understood.
Thanks for inputs
Can I tell this to my manager ? I wanted to tell my manager that i cannot be more productive if I work 12 hours a day. I know it’s a full time position and they expect me to work. But I’m worried about my well being and family life as well
