Hi Ladies! I was recently introduced to a new concept, and am curious to get thoughts of peers. Have you heard the term or ever experienced “medical gaslighting”? If so, what are your thoughts? Never heard of the term, but I know it's real. Doctors dismiss symptoms women say they are experiencing much more often than they dismiss what men say, and it's even more likely for women of color. What can we do? When a doctor told me a lump in my neck didn't exist because she couldn't feel it (legit her words adjusted to be third person), I asked her to put that in writing so it would be easier to sue her; she immediately gave me a referral to an ENT who was able to figure out what was going on. We can't back down when they say what we're saying isn't real.

Also haven’t heard the term but the concept has been around forever...I literally think it used to be called “hysteria” and women weren’t taken seriously at the doctor. Unfortunately you need to really advocate for yourself and family members. You know your body best - if something doesn’t feel right, it’s not.

Yes this is absolutely true in my experience. I especially had a serious issue over quarantine which has caused complications. Was initially dismissed, had to push for evaluation.

Yup. It exists but many medical schools choose to teach racism in medicine as a debate, rather than proven occurrence. Heavily affects minorities. I had to fight tooth and nail with a hospital to take a loved one’s case seriously. The best thing you can do is know your patient rights and ALWAYS push back on your doctor. Just like work DOCUMENT everything. Don’t be afraid to write messages in the patient portal if your doc isn’t taking your care seriously. Don’t be afraid to walk away and tell your doctor why you are walking away. If you don’t speak up you are paving the way for another person to be harmed by same said doctor. Remember patient navigators are like HR for the hospital and there to protect the hospital.

I’m so sick of teachers making excuses for not getting vaccinated. I got this lovely reply from a teacher in Washington because I support a mandate. Hell no, I’m in a high need field and rated highly effective.

Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?
