I'm fully convinced happiness at a job esp consulting, is something you build. It may come at first when you have the initial honeymoon of joining but then the new wears off and you see a lot of the problems you saw at the last job. Just speaking from my current situation of leaving job A for more money and job B for happiness. Now at job c and wondering if I made a mistake but the reality is it's difficult to start over and it takes time to establish yourself and find flow, balance and happiness.

Lol agree with SM1. If you’re trying to stay in consulting, idk how to help you. I also moved to tech and I am super happy. I finally feel at peace with where I am in life.

I am fully 100% happy in my role/company. I left PwC for a tech company 2 years ago though so I can’t help ya if you’re looking for happiness in the consulting world 🙈 once you realize every job and every company has different warts, you can figure out which warts are ones you can deal with and which ones are deal breakers.

Oh it’s sad that this question is being asked. People don’t need to be ecstatic about their work, I mean, it is work. But day to day if you’re really unhappy, fun out why and work in that.
I left great roles at great companies because I was unhappy. In hindsight the job was fine. It was me who was unhappy - a different job didn’t change that. It just changed the environment.

This is a sad response and I disagree. We spend over ~50% of our lives doing work, being at work, thinking about work, talking about work, on social medial apps about work, etc. You should and can find a career, role, or a company that makes you feel fulfilled and excited to open your laptop on Monday morning. I do agree that if you are perpetually unhappy it’s always a good idea to seek guidance or counseling. Something that takes up SO much of our lives should not make you unhappy and should be a source of joy.

I would say I’m content. Money is good, work life balance is good, and drama is tolerable. Exposed to a decent mix of new stuff for growth but enough stuff in my comfort zone that I’m not drowning. Enough of a seat at the table that I feel valued.
I think that’s all I’ve come to expect out of a job.

Also at a tech start up and no longer in consulting haha!
I got extremely lucky to find a job that i love. Spent 5 years in consulting. Last two at mckinsey where the work life balance (and the culture) was brutal. Stumbled into this new job at a climate tech startup at the beginning of the year and i’m still mindblown when i look forward to going to work on monday. There are of course tradeoffs (like a 50% pay cut) but i have zero regrets. Happy to chat if you’d like.
