My friend was Offered a Content Operations Coordinator role at Instagram for $30/hr or about 62,400/year. She’s making about that much right now as a retail analyst. Job set in NYC. 3 years professional experience. Is that a good rate? She was hoping for 40/hr. Is that too much to ask? Negotiation tips I can pass along? TYIA!

Is it fair for me to oppose if it comes to it? She would be reporting directly under myself and I would work the most with her, even if I'm the most junior..

That's a good way of approaching it, thank you!
This candidate really just seems to want to move for higher pay/change, I wasn't able to get any reason as to why this role (and it's very taxing/stressful so this isn't going to cut it). The other junior also found her motivations not very strong/outstanding, more like she read off cliches online
She also lacks any prior experience (versus the other candidates with very similar prior roles/experiences)
Not sure if as a result, but she also didn't perform as well on the technical portion.
To put it in perspective, the other junior and I both put her in the "no" pile, not even a "maybe". So this is the gap we're working with in skills/experience
By push forward, do you mean extend an offer, or just move into another round? If the latter, I would encourage other interviewers to probe her on the technical skills portion.
Of course!! Good luck navigating. It’s a prickly situation for everyone. I learned in my career to “cover my ass” and document everything in written format but of course ensuring everything written is as neutral, objective, and unbiased as possible.
