I’m 37, black and work in midtown. I live in Forest Hills and the commute is ok.

Congratulations!

Do you want to live close to work? What kind of amenities are important to you?

Jersey City - super affordable more bang for your buck

What do you value? I live on the upper west bc it’s my favorite neighborhood and I like to be close to things. If you don’t care about commute or doorman or loving your apt (bc you plan to be out) or noise or whatever those are things you need to identify.

Congrats on the job! I’m also 37 and single and work in the city!

If you like proximity restaurants and nightlife, I recommend places like Astoria, Harlem, and Jersey City. Cities in lower Westchester (county above NYC) like New Rochelle and Yonkers (especially on the waterfront) can also be nice as long as you’re near the Metro North.

Middle to lower Manhattan is a great area but expensive. Harlem is an upcoming area and the cost of living is cheaper. Which borough are you moving too?

I am not saying Harlem has come up due to "diversity." What i am saying is that something that is unusual is now usual due to the changes made within Harlem. Please be open-minded, flexible in thinking and not so quick to be defensive without asking questions about ones post.

Also, for educational purposes those who are from NYC know that certain places received benefits and flourished while others lacked resources, restructuring and were neglected. I am happy that Harlem is getting what it needs most importantly for the people that live there.

Thanks,

What’s your budget bc if you can afford it I wouldn’t move terribly far until you have an idea of what you even like.

like

Brooklyn (if you can afford it), Queens/Richmond Hill, Harlem & New Rochelle (upstate). G’luck!

Depending on the type of transportation but not a 15 minute walk.

like

Probably not the most diverse area, but LIC has a great commute to midtown

Long Island City

Moving on the outskirts of the NYC is beneficial or you would most likely need to have a roommate for the sky high rent. NYC is about location, location, location. Most places to live are in close proximity to stores, subways as well as bus lines along with shops and you will be paying more for the cost of living. Queens, Brooklyn and Bronx may be more affordable. If you are looking for the best areas but willing to pay for more you would be looking between 110th and 125th street in Manhattan, Forest Park, Queens, the Village which is downtown Manhattan.

Harlem or uptown above 168th Street. Convenient trains to midtown east or west, lots of places to hangout and meet new people, shopping ect.

Moving to Austin from Houston sometime in July or August. Seen a lot of great 2 bedroom houses/condos for rent on the goMLS app. Is anyone looking for a roommate situation in that timeframe? I have a 10lb mini schnauzer and livingroom furniture (couch, coffee table, credenza, 65” tv). Please let me know if you’re interested. Thanks!!!!!
