Hi, looking for quick advice in terms of career development in product.
Should I learn Python and Product Analytics? I’ve been told to learn the foundations of “everything” to be a more well rounded PO/PM. I just want to be sure this is a great first step. I currently know the foundations of SQL, am enrolled in an MBA, and have worked on projects implementing Scrum/Agile, and UX+PM tools. Any advice will be helpful. TIA

Yes, python and analytics is definitely will help. If you can get into dev ops that would be the best.

Thank you! Just started learning the foundations of DevOps.

I think it just depend on the product work you are doing/managing. I work with a very technical team but I’m not technical at all. I do have my MBA and I’m currently learning some coding on the side just to help me better understand my teams and their limitations but it’s not necessary where I work. Most of the product managers I work with are non technical but all of our teams have a technical product owner on them so that’s where I spend my most time collaborating. I will say though that analytics of any kind will serve you well.

This is so interesting, every company/team really is different.
Thank you for this!

The syntax ( command line ) in Python is very user friendly at first compared to some languages

I think for getting in it helps to have a knowledge of everything. I know more development (although maybe internship level) than other PMs I work with and I find that it helps with relationships to our engineering team. I think as the career goes it seems to be better to focus on some niche skills or industries

I was offered a new position at work in a different office. It is a lateral move but they want to quickly move me into the position and has future room for growth. I have been in my current role for about 8 months and enjoy the work and the team. Growth opportunities are limited but they offered me 10k to stay for another year. Idk if I should take the bird in hand or 2 in the bush!!! Money isn’t really a motivator but I feel weird leaving after such a short amount of time.

I just checked my bank account and realized that I was charged an extra $10 that I didn’t authorize on my bar tab on Halloween weekend.

A 21% service fee was already included so I left an additional tip of $0. They charged me an extra $10 on top of that 21% anyway.

Any idea what my recourse is? I’m in Florida, and I’m sure this place does it all the time. I already emailed their general manager with copies of my receipts and the total charge to my debit card.

I have a choice between taking a role at an Enterprise SaaS company in my industry or a consumer brand company in my industry. I love the feedback of working with consumers directly, but seems like enterprise SaaS will have a lot of opportunities for product roles. Any thoughts?

Been a PM for 6 years and I feel jaded about the role. I don’t think I add value besides being a product sales person for customers and talking “business speak”. I have delivered features that didn’t require PM work. None of the features I tried to push will be built. I now build what engineering and leaders want. Also we are very short staffed and other than critical features I don’t envision new work. Thoughts?

How tough is it to break into a FAANG PM role at mid-level if you have less prestigious experience? 4. HR interview (which I felt was odd)
5. SVP interview

This is for a Product Owner role, felt five interviews was excessive, especially the HR interview. Was told it was down to another candidate and I on 4/27 and final decision would be made on 5/2. Since, recruiter has ghosted me. Have feeling they offered to the other candidate.

As a PM, I feel as though I should own and manage the product. But Senior Leadership often comes to me with “we’ve promised this to a client so you have to build it”. There’s often little to no discovery of the benefit of building something beyond “client excitement in a meeting”. How do you handle these types of issues, especially when it’s CEO, VP, and Directors owning the roadmap and you are the executer?
