Hi! Looking for some advice on tech sales vs non-tech sales.
I’m 27 and have been with tech companies for 5 years (BDR, hybrid BDR/SMB sales, and then customer care type role).
I’m currently interviewing for a Sales Exec role at a company that provides virtual mental health services, so I would not be in the tech realm necessarily. I’m wondering if this will negatively impact me in the future, if I try to get back in the tech world.

In my opinion, sales is sales. If you’re good at persuading people to take action, you could do it in any industry you’re passionate and knowledgeable about.

The pro of this company is that it’s something I could be very passionate about. I just don’t want to put myself at a disadvantage in the future.

Sales is sales but be sure you’re joining a good company. This market is incredibly crowded right now… and I don’t think many of the solutions out there will survive

like

Who are you selling to?

Not necessarily. You'll survive as long as you know how to persuade people. You can still use all the things you've learned in tech sales.

The contacts you sell to will be a good indicator if switching back to tech would be manageable. For instance, if you’re B2C and then you have to sell to CXOs in your next role, there will be a gap in outreach, sales strategy, vocab, negotiation, etc.

But who cares honestly. You might love this and never go back to tech 🤷🏻‍♂️

That sounds like a really cool company to work for. I don't think that it will hurt you at all or impact you in any negative way. I say go for it, it sounds like a good opportunity,

I need tips to navigate this convo since it’s so early into my role without him thinking I’m unhappy, but just want the opportunity to pursue what I want to do long term!

I have been with my company 20+ years. This past year they did a sales market restructure - directions from new upper management. The restructure has been less than favorable toward my commission goals. The coming years don’t look promising. There are sales people making $$$ only here 1-2 years because they were given all my opportunities. It is hard to leave this company - it has been great until now with the changes. I have a very strong job offer elsewhere - but worried about non compete.

I’m looking for some advice on the best companies to apply to as an AE/ Account Manager new to the North American market! The majority of the positions that I have previously worked are combined closer and customer service positions, completing end-to-end sales including the hunt, the close and the retention process!

My experience is in the FMCG sector, Real Estate and hospitality. I am interested in positions in the tech industry and would appreciate any referrals to companies.
