Hi Moms- Curious to get a sense of what your different parental leave policies look like and how you have liked them. My company gave 12 weeks paid and I felt it was woefully short for my first. So when I worked in internal HR, we were trying to figure out the same. We were offering 12 weeks and increased to 16. I did some research on this (wish I had the presentation still) but we basically had to present it to our COO who had the final say. He was against extending paternal leave beyond 2 weeks, but he was for doing 16 weeks for primary caregiver. Most of the info we referenced was available on Google and we also mentioned that globally, leave policies were much more generous.

thanks for sharing!

I had 16 weeks paid, could take another 4 unpaid but job protected due to state law, add on PTO, and take up to 365 days unpaid and not job projected (required finding a new role I think within 2 weeks of returning or otherwise would be considered a voluntary resignation aka no severance). I ended up taking 22 weeks.

thanks for sharing!

16 weeks 100% paid for birthing mothers. Increased from 12 weeks about 2 years ago. 10 weeks for paternal/non birthing parent though we are highly discouraged from taking any more than 2 weeks. Zero flexibility.

Of course! Would love to switch to a firm that cares more about its employees

12 weeks fully paid with an additional 4 weeks unpaid, but was able to use state leave to cover 2 of those weeks. Felt like it was a good amount, but did NOT feel like there was an easy transition back to work. Phased return to work seems necessary to prevent burnout. There is no way you can immediately go back to fully functioning in your role after having a baby- life is completely different and priorities have shifted. There has to be more of a focus on supporting this new life you and your family have.

My firm provides 20 weeks fully paid for mothers who deliver (12 weeks if you adopt), plus you can add on PTO, STD, or unpaid leave if you choose. They’re incredibly flexible and supportive… one of my colleagues is about to go out with her second and is taking 8 months. She said it’s been a very easy process.

Deloitte offers 16 weeks family leave (adopt, paternity, maternity, or taking care of ill parent). If you give birth you get an additional 6 or 8 weeks of STD. And then you can tack on some PTO to the family leave (you still acquire PTO while out).

16 weeks for birthing mothers and option to take 8 more unpaid. My SOs firm offers 26 weeks for both parents

I feel like such a shitty mom. I am 40 weeks and 4 days and I have not gone into labor yet. The first time I had a C-section, so I cannot be induced for fear of uterine rupture. But if I wait too long for the onset of natural labor for my planned VbAC, then I might be risking the baby’s health. After pumping myself up fir a VbAC and studying breathing techniques and being ready to give birth, I am just at an impasse. My doc scheduled a csection for Thursday because she doesn’t want to wait

I do work for 4 main partners, though I have closer working relationships with some more than others. Any advice appreciated!

I am newly pregnant, vaccinated and boosted, and trying to figure out if I need to stop going into the office and increase the medium level of COVID precautions I had been taking. I had previously been going in 2-3 days a week and working remote the rest of the time. Also my husband travels a fair amount for work and idk if he should be trying to limit travel/office time as well. Will ask my Dr too but curious what level of advanced precautions others in this situation have taken. Thanks!
