Consulting Moms

Hi 🐠 moms! Currently on maternity leave, but considering extending to take additional time off as I've heard theres quite a bit of growth/development in the first 6 months. Thoughts/Opinions?

If you can take 6 months, it’s totally worth it

I think 6 months is the perfect sweet spot that allows you to recover and work your way out of newborn zombie mode, begin to enjoy and appreciate the fun parts of being a mom, start to get more sleep, and still not so out of work mode that it's impossible to remember how to be a consultant when you get back :)

I went back at 4 months and I wish I took 6. For us, the 4 month sleep regression hit hard and we sleep trained at 6 months. Those 2 months of working and waking up every 90 minutes were brutal. I think I would have enjoyed the early months more if I took a bit of extra time before going back to work. Definitely taking 6 with my second

Just depends what you want. There is plenty of growth / development for the first 18 years. Personally I was excited to go back to work sooner rather than later :)

Thank God I’m not the only one! I could have taken a couple more weeks at partial pay through the state of California but at 5 months I was READY to go back.

I’m doing it as we speak. I felt a bit guilty initially but everyone has been super supportive of the decision and I’m glad I decided to go down this path. Like then ladies here, I realize most ppl did take extra time or would have wanted to had they been able. So if you can- def do it and don’t think twice abt it.

Do it if you want and can. It’s worth it. But make sure you still have some time for additional appts and time off for fussy days or doc appts. It’s non stop trips basically until 2-3yrs

Took 5, and transitioned back slowly during my 6th month (part-time) - felt right. But if I could afford to take the entire 6th month off, I totally would have.

I went back after 3.5 months and regret it. If you can take 6 months, do it!
