Can be done quickly if the baby is cooperative. Half of my scans were long because the technician had to jiggle my belly to get the baby to turn a certain direction for the right view. They know exactly what they’re looking for.
Was going to say the same. Mine took a little longer coz baby was asleep and needed some jiggling awake. But otherwise they said it goes pretty quickly
Did he show all the organs? We asked about each and every organ. Her stomach, her feet, her kidneys, her bladder, her nose, her mouth etc
Ugh we got our first technician like that, my daughter wasn’t really that cooperative so they scheduled another appointment. The next time we got a wonderful technician who showed us all the tiny parts and laughed and cooed with us but couldn’t scan her heart or private parts. We made another appointment , and the last guy was downright rude when we asked about gender. His exact words, “ there is only one way of finding gender and that’s by giving birth”. I nearly shouted at him and stormed out for the way he was talking. Unfortunately, it really depends on the person we get and the mood they are in.
Anatomy scans from what I know is an organ check and time depends mostly on position of baby. Also took around ten to fifteen mins for me. I also had an extra 45 min scan cos my baby had a high risk for heart defects, which is a totally different ball game. There they zoomed into each heart chamber for example and analysed everything in detail. Not sure this is necessary if the anatomy check looks normal.

Got it. Hope you had a healthy baby!

Did they show you or send you all the scans? My nurse was absolutely amazing - knowing it was our first, she took extra time to let me look at live footages and took extra 4D images for me to take home. The whole process was an hour but she was taking her time to talk to me and let me look at my baby. Then the doctor also looked at the scans and re-assumed me the baby is normal. Did you get to talk to the doctor to reconfirm?

Not yet. I have an appointment in another 2 weeks with doctor. I am planning to go over the scan and images that they have in detail. I did get 4 images of my baby to take home. Picture of his leg, his arm with fingers open, spine and heart. It was late Friday, so none of the notes were also uploaded into the system.

He should have taken lots of pictures of organs, body parts, etc., so as long as you have those, you should be great. Congratulations on a healthy baby!! It’s such a relief. 😊

Thank you! He did take lots of pictures and notes. I will reconfirm this in my next appointment.
Mine only took 15min, baby was SUPER cooperative and didnt get wriggly till the end. Im 40wks now and baby looked perfect on 32 and 40wk ultrasounds. Preconsulting I was a biophysicist and did lots of imaging work, so I pretty much asked questions about every organ/structure visible. Sonographers usually arent allowed to tell you if something is abnormal but they can tell you if something is normal if you ask in a certain way or confirm what you are seeing. Its also really difficult to make something abnormal look normal on a US (like, if a heart has 4 chambers its easy to take pix at an angle that makes it look like a chamber is malformed, but hard to take pix that make it look like a heart with septal defect isnt missing a part). I asked very specific questions about the normalcy of my baby's body while the sonographer was working to manage my expectations around some common potential defects which the doctor interpreting the scan will check for. I was most concerned about heart defects (all chambers and valves present, good flow, no septal/other cardiac wall defects visible), gastroschisis/omphalocele (all the abdominal organs are present and clearly inside the abdominal wall), brain defects (baby has 2 brain ventricles, no cysts, and in-range abdominal/cranial percentile measurements), and spinal defects (neural tube is closed, normal curvature, all vertabrae present). Theres plenty of other stuff to check for but those were my main concerns - as they would require more aggressive management/intervention during the prenatal or immediate postnal period. Stuff like cleft palate and malformations of the hand/foot just were not super priority for me, although im happy my baby is healthy and within normal anotomical ranges.

My first was 45 mins and second was 10-15…all depends on baby’s position and whether or not things look immediately normal or require additional images to be sure! I wouldn’t worry!
Our scans were each e like 20 min of someone desperately trying to get whatever picture they needed....then saying they needed to go get someone else. Then the more senior person comes in looks for 30 sec and says you are fine. I don’t know if it was staffing model/apprentice model or uncooperative baby. But he’s healthy!
