I think “sleep train” gets a bad wrap because of old school cry it out methods. All the suggestions above are about giving your baby the environment to sleep soundly. Our baby naturally started sleeping longer stretches as long as we fed him enough, provided routine, and provided sound machine/sleep sack/etc. Find what works for you but sleep is important for both parents and baby and encouraging that shouldn’t be perceived as a bad thing.

The earlier bedtime is magic. Starting the bedtime routine about 6, with them in bed asleep around 7:00 was a critical step for us for both our kids. (This works hand in hand with lots of other great advice above, like limiting naps during the day, trying to push feeds during the day so that night is for sleep, etc.)

I would definitely get a routine going…bath, calming lotion, swaddle or sleep sack, warm bottle, dark room, white noise machine or fan…all things that helped my two transition to being good sleepers still at almost 5 and 7. :)

All of this and watch daytime wake windows to make sure they are getting enough sleep during the day. My LO is 8 weeks and I put him down for naps as soon as I get sleep cues. I shoot for an 8pm bedtime and then lately I’ve been trying to “dream feed” around ten. I also stopped drinking coffee and noticed my babe slept better (probably unpopular advice lol).

Bathtime, warm pajamas, and a full bottle as a nighttime routine really helps us!

Suggest the book twelve hours by twelve weeks. Suggestions: Regular bedtime routine Possibly offer a big bottle of formula before bed… they digest it more slowly than breastmilk White noise, magic Merlin or other weighted sleep sack (assuming he is out of the swaddle) If he cries, give him a few minutes to resettle on his own before you go in Starting with second feed of the night, remove 1/2 ounce each night until you eliminate that feed, then move to another feed

I got this book and it's AMAZING. FTM pregnant with twins, but I'm all in for sleep training! I didn't realize there was a stigma with it, to me it's just about a schedule?

In addition to the above, we capped all day time naps at 2 hours max to help our girl get all her calories during the day. She’s 12 weeks today (8.5 weeks adjusted) and she only wakes one time to eat at night and immediately goes back to sleep. She’s consistently sleeping 7+ hours in the first night time stretch. I would also say looking at ab earlier bedtime 7-8pm) and being consistent with it helped us too.

Agree with all of this - solid advice. Managing daytime naps is very beneficial to night time sleep. Ours both started sleeping consistently through the night at 5 and 6 weeks (7+ hrs). Our boy (now 9 months) goes to bed at 6, is asleep by 6:30 and we wake him at 7am. He has three 40 min naps during the day - we’ve been on this schedule since he was about 12 weeks.

By 10 weeks both my kids were sleeping 10 hours a night. No sleep training, but we did establish a routine, and differentiated nap time and bed time by where they slept and use of a swaddle (then sleep sack) for bedtime.
