Hi, I am being offered 27L + 2L Variable for Manager (M1) at KPMG India. Will I also be eligible for year end performance bonus? Or is variable pay the only amount that I’d be eligible for?
Am I being lowballed by the HR in terms of offer ? Approx 8yoe currently at 21LPA (recently promoted) KPMG KPMG India
Good decision mate. I am also having second thoughts now as I am travelling right now to Delhi to proceed with my H1B stamping as I write this reply.
I am offered $70k in the US salary and my current package in India is 8LPA for a 7.5 yoe me. I am single right now not having dependents as of now.
Will it be a good decision to travel in the US provided I do not have any other offer in India as of now? Please advise.
But apart from these numerical comparison... Unlike Americans, you don't have to settle there, and when you come back with all those saved dollars in India.... Voilla
It is a wise decision and certainly it's not a once in a lifetime opportunity.
My wife got picked in the H1B lottery however she decided not to go as we were of the opinion travelling to US and settling there was not an option for us at this point in time as both my son and I will be eligible for H4 however I would have to wait at least 1 year minimum to get an EAD (based some of my friends experience getting an EAD has become a lengthy process) and I have my parents too and they are completely dependent on me and I can't leave them.
Eventually my wife had to leave that org and joined another org and guess what now she is being processed for B1 visa... 😁😁
So if anyone says that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity throw a flower at them along with the pot. 😁
You've made the wise decision and you certainly will get another opportunity.
Good luck
..So, I have said no to onsite and thinking to continue with India. Is this a wise decision? I am getting responses like it is a lifetime opportunity why I am not taking it. But, tbh, now my priority is getting settled buy a house, a car, keep family close etc. US salary in range 80k in Florida. Wife is working. I am 10 yoe, not having huge bank balance, no financial backup from parents side, single child. Current Org not ready to match offer.
Please pour in your thoughts for a slightly different situation from the OP.
My Wife is being processed for L1 and I will be getting L2 through her organisation - meaning, we both can go and work there for our respective organisations. Our combined earning is ~45L here in India and if I make a long overdue switch, it can increase to ~60L. In the US, it will be ~200k$. We have been married for a year and plan to have a kid in the near future. I have a younger brother to take care of my parents during my absence.
We have decent financial backup and savings at the moment and even though it's not luxurious, we're leading a contented life.
Considering all these factors, is it good to take the US opportunity? I can furnish other details, if needed.
What they couldn’t do in all these years can be done in 2 or 3 months ? I highly doubt that. It’s wise to take that offer of 28LPA. Considering that your wife works, you will end up earning and saving a lot as a couple when compared to that of your earnings in USA. 80k minus tax minus healthcare minus your expenses will be almost at par with what you will save here.
Bro go with 28lpa . People are getting good money her in India now days . And most important taking care of parents when they really need you in old age.
Bro, i had the same situation of getting promise only, but travel was not happening. The same year of exp as you and same salary. Now i am on notice period, got slightly higher offer (30L) in India. I will be staying in India only to take care of my dad who is 76. I lost my mom during covid time, if you are paid decently go away leaving your family who really need care than money. Remember you are earning for them only.
They are just saying for the sake of it. If they actually valued you they would have matched your offer. I would suggest you to leave the org as you already have elaborated about the commitments that you have now, but with 10 yoe i would aim for more in India as wel, use this offer to get a better package.
80k in US will result in 50 lakhs per annum take home for you.
With a minimum 30 lakh expenditure on a normal lifestyle.
You will have nearly 20 lakhs savings.
However in India you can manage to save 15+ lakhs yearly plus your wife's income.
With a good salary hike in post covid era,
You shouldn't take onsite as an earning opportunity.
You should plan for longterm(lifelong) thing, if you want to settle in US, feel free to go as you have the opportunity in hand.
If you want to settle with friends and family in India, dont just push yourself for US.
I have a year old son, there is nothing I wouldn't do to stay with him.
I watch as he holds on to my ears with interest meddling with it while sucking his 2 fingers(always does this when he finds something interesting to do) and continues meddling with my ears.
He loves to be taken outside. My one year old has more friends that he needs to meet everyday which is more than all the friend I gathered in my entire life. Nothing would make me more happy than walking him in a pram in and around my apartments so that he gets to meet his friends.
He sleeps in different directions in bed, ruins my sleep, throws his hand and feet over my face everyday. But still the time I enjoy seeing him especially at this age is not worth losing for a 400k paycheck in Netflix in US! Trust me!
You have made the correct decision because I hav seen my friends reject offers for false promises of onsite opportunities which ultimately they do not get. Also the reasons which you have mentioned for staying back is much stronger. Write down the pros and cons in a paper and decide yourself- this is what my wife has taught me while deciding important life decisions. 😀🙏

My Manager told onsite available in the future and I said nah, I ain’t going. She was surprised and said it’s career opportunity. I don’t want to go to Canada. If it were Australia, I’d consider it
Hey! How much did they offer for Canada and what profile?

Even if you were not having these personal obligations still I would have recommended to go with 28 lpa offer.
If your employer realises your value only after resigning - its best not to continue.
There are plenty of offers in India IT market and US and European countries are into recession or going towards recession.
Better to go with 28 lpa India offer. Thats a good one to live a comfortable life in India.
At the end of the day it’s family for whom we are doing everything . Considering your wife is expecting and she will need you and you also need to take care of parents it’s better to stay in india. Such opportunities will come again in future .
It's a good decision bro. 28 lpa is a good offer for now . Stay with the family. 👍
Thank you all for your valuable insights. Really appreciate it. This gave me a lot of confidence.
Good decision, go with 28 LPA.
Those who gets onsite before 30 are really lucky, after that we all stuck with kids, parents and other dependcies and not easy to travel
I read somewhere that a person earning 1cr(INR) in USA is having same lifestyle as a person living in India earning 23-30 LPA (INR).
If you convert your 80K USD to INR, it’s around 64-65 LPA. You’ll have to move in either alone or with family and set everything up there from scratch which will incur more cost.
So if you’re thinking from Financial perspective staying in India with 28 LPA is better. You won’t have to spend a bomb on setting up all infrastructure for your family and for yourself.
You already know what you want. So don't doubt your decision. If I was in your place, would have definitely given more priority to wife, kid and parents than onsite at this point of time. :) This is just not the right time. You will get it again. Have faith.
Just remember simple logic. 23 lakhs is equal to $100k considering cost of living etc. with 28 lakhs you can live a good lifestyle in india and stay with your family. Its sad to see people are still behind all EU, US, UK jobs and suffer there for years without friends, family, no good lifestyle etc. So dont listen to anyone.
