When you transfer, you can get that 3 year extension
This is what I was looking for . Thank you ! So I will then have 3 years to get I140 approved again
You need to wait till 6 months after i140 is approved, after that you are good to go. You will only need to apply for green card with your current employer when your priority date is current.
I think that’s what I wrote in first comment 😊
OP, if your I140 has been approved for more than 180 days, you don’t need to have your new I140 before the expiration of your H1B transfer end date. You can still use the old I140 for any future extension or transfer, until you get your PD current.

This is a good point. You need to have a 140 to use when your date becomes current. Otherwise your next extension may be jeopardized
OP if you are from India and priority date is somewhere after 2017 you probably don’t need new process started in the near future. When your priority date is getting closer, you can start the process.
For H1b extensions you can use your previous employer’s approved i140.
