Hi new joiner here, B4 audit grad. For perspective have you got any tips on progression or how to set yourself a foundation for doing well at the firm generally? Obviously I just want to pass my exams for now but still would one day like to get to senior etc.

Currently a Federal Tax Manager looking to get away from compliance in at least some capacity. Has anyone ever done a rotation or taken on an internal role within Big 4, while also keeping some compliance clients? Not looking to reach that next promotion right away, I just don’t want to do tax returns forever and want to explore what’s out there before hitting the gas again on my career trajectory…advice? Deloitte seems supportive but I want to hear from someone who’s done it 🤷‍♀️

Has anyone found roles in Big 4 or industry that allowed more work life balance when their kids were young without damaging future career trajectory? I'm a partner with young kids and feel like I'm missing out on too much of their lives. Wishful, but my dream job would have a lighter workload in terms of time and pressure for the next ~5 years, but not set me back too much (or at all) when the kids are older and tired of me in a few years and I'm ready to be back at work full force.

Just read something in another bowl about older industry hires in consulting and how they may be a misfit for the team. I’m now wondering if I’m too old for this gig. I’m 40 and just started as an SM at a big 4. Mistake? Should I return to the industry? Is ageism worse in consulting?

My biggest concern is not knowing how to build a model from scratch. Any tips on resources to learn these skills / do most MM firms even make you build a model during interviews?

Started in Tax 1yr ago but was pulled onto PPPConsulting project 10 months in. After PPP I can’t see myself going back to tax. I’ve become interested in healthcare and eventually want to do MHA and go into hospital leadership. In the beginning of week, I was scheduled spilt between her client and another, and she felt I was responsible to tell her. We all have access to the schedule. I know my client needs an Accounting Manager. I know this because they’re startup med device company that has their books in complete shambles. The current accounting team isn’t very strong.
