Hi! New to investing and had a question... I like the idea of buying index funds - but I want to decrease exposure to fluffy companies without results and focus more on stable companies. In this case, what would be a good etf to buy? I saw VTV is a value index - would this be a better one to buy then voo? Or should I just buy VOO until I get some more experience in investing?

Most of the folks on here will say VOO or VTSAX. Most index funds rebalance regularly and are heavily invested in the blue chips. The whole point of index funds is that you don’t have to do the research.

like

Yes, VOO will be just fine. Or BRKB. Your biggest exposure in either case will be Apple which is probably the most solid company in the world right now

They are just different strategies at the end of the day. Both have positives and negatives but in general you’ll be fine buying either. Both are great starter ETFs.

Pro-tip, always check the expense ratio (the fund management fee).

Thank you so much!

Go with VTI for total market exposure

You can also do a value oriented fund like VTV if you want to exclude the high multiple growth companies

Hi FIRE 🐟 thinking to buy my first house next year and I’ve read advice here that says to buy the first property and then rent it out (and put little down), but given the current high interest rates, if I put little down, the mortgage will be really high. I also live in a HCOL area so is this advice for LCOL/MCOL or am I missing something? Advice is appreciated!

Switched jobs from a company that offers Vanguard 401ks to Fidelity. My personal brokerage was also under Vanguard.

I was thinking about consolidating everything under Fidelity but it seems like there are transaction fees for buying Vanguard mutual funds if I want to continue investing in my personal brokerage. Is there any way to dodge these fees or is it just normal for people to keep multiple investment accounts, one for a 401k and one for brokerages, if they don't match?

How do you measure fire readiness when it Comes to real estate ?

My current + pipeline homes (2-3) year stats:
Purchase (10 homes) 4.3M
Down- about 25%
Market value- guess if 5.4M
Equity of 2.1M , net equity of 1.0 if exclude my down payments
Cash on cash isn’t best but about 4.5% ( lived in some of these homes)
Net income- 50k/yr

Clearly high assets and loans with small cash compared to current income but building wealth. How to measure fire - income? Wealth accumulation?

Heading into 2023, here are some phrases I'm eliminating:

1. "No worries."
2. "No problem."
3. "Sorry to bother you."
4. "Does this make sense?"
5. "Sorry, I'll fix that right now."

Here's what I'm replacing them with: ⤵
1. My pleasure.
2. Of course, happy to help.
3. When you have a minute, can I get your opinion on ____?
4. Does this help you clarify things?
5. Thank you for catching that!

- Sexy name? I may have to change mine now
- Physical attractiveness
- Occupation of authority - if a man

And these same factors were classified as the ones with the least impact on happiness in a relationship
