Hi, Not pregnant yet but a big time planner. When do you think would be the optimal time to tell my manager about a pregnancy? I’m currently way behind on my targets and my company is undergoing a restructuring. I’m of two minds about it. On one hand, a known pregnancy might “protect” me from being let go but on the other hand, telling them sooner could give them more time to figure out how to let me go ahead of mat leave. Love to get some thoughts on this! Thanks

Agree with the posters who say wait until your pregnant to tackle this. It’s truly not worth your time to think about it until then. And only tell them when you’re ready.

You never know the journey that trying to conceive and pregnancy will take you on. Things can change a lot for you, your health and your company’s situation very quickly.

Also, pregnancy doesn’t protect you from getting laid off if they’re downsizing, so just know that from the outset.

This is so situation dependent it’s difficult to give you a hard and fast rule here… I’ll tell you this: I am 34w right now and I had no choice but to tell my team at 8w, even though I really wasn’t ready. We were on B2B zooms all day and the morning sickness was so bad I couldn’t hide it. So, it’s ok to make a plan, but it might not unfold that way. I think I would’ve been more comfortable to tell them after my NIPT testing, which happens around 13w. Some people choose to wait until after their anatomy scan at 20w. Just depends on you, the support you need and how it might impact your day to day.

Pregnancy won’t protect you from getting laid-off, let go, or restructured. I highly recommend waiting until after the first trimester to be sure it’s a healthy, sustainable pregnancy. The more people you tell early, the more people you have to tell if something goes wrong and it’s an absolutely devastating experience.

Pregnant FTM here, 15 weeks: currently in a 1br small NYC apt, husband wants us to relocate to LA to his parents place and have a nice amount of space, beat winter weather, get help in first couple of months from his mom, and save on rent (put stuff in storage in NY for about a year).

Concerns:
1) having to find a new obgyn/hospital for delivery in LA (starting end of 2nd trimester)
2) not being in our ownspace to heal mentally/physically postbirth (weighing that against additional support too)

How do women really work in pregnancy? I am 7 weeks and so exhausted to work that I feel like taking a long break instead I’m getting overburdened with work. I'm actively looking to have children. Medical advice tells me not to put it off at all, it's now or potentially never.

I have been approached about new jobs, have found jobs that are perfect but they don't offer anything above the statutory mat payments unless you have been there for a year or two at least. As the main breadwinner stat payments would be devastating for us.

Any book recommendations for parenting an extremely stubborn child? My 4.5 yo middle is giving us such a hard time lately. It varies what sets him off, but one example is: I ask him and big sis to get pajamas on before movie night. Often they come out ready 2 min later but sometimes randomly he’ll say he can’t do it, demand my help, and (when I gently insist he needs to try first) will get so upset that it essentially ruins his evening. he’s otherwise kind, thoughtful, smart, and loving.

Hi Moms, just had baby #2 and we want to upgrade our family car from Toyota Rav4 to a 3-row luxury SUV that's nice looking inside and outside, reliable and has decent cargo space too. How do you guys keep your house clean with toddlers and have time to work full time, work out, cook, play with toddlers, take them to activities, etc? I've never been a super tidy person but I really do enjoy a clean home and try but I have the hardest time keeping up.
